I believe this was 2007 vintage. Nice oak and vanillin notes, almost too much but not quite. Flavor is brettanomyces cherry with some candy sugar and deeply developed malt tones. very layered and enjoyable.
Pours a dark chestnut brown/ruby red color with plum edges and a half finger beige head that slowly settles into lasting ring. Good retention with spotty lacing left behind.
Sweet, slightly funky aroma with very subtle acetic vinegar, earthy oak and funky bugs. Not solvent like however with vinous dark fruit sweetness complimenting the funk, barrel and acidity. Hints of sour cherry, grape and plum with a decent roasted malt backbone underneath.
On the fuller end of medium body with tart acidity and slight acetic vinegar followed by sweet vinous fruit and slightly roasted dark malt. Some dryness, possibly from the oak, meshes with acetic acid, earthy funk and dry, bretty bugs. The acidity and funk are countered by dark fruit sweetness and subtle malt flavors. Hints of raspberry, sour cherry, grape and plum compliment the acetic quality while providing some needed balance to the dry oak and musty funk. Nicely balanced with good sourness and subtle funk. Easy to drink with little to no harshness. I haven’t had this beer fresh but it has held up nicely and is better than some of the other reviews indicate. A – Pours deep, dark, red with little to no head at all leaving no lacing at all to speak of.
S – Smells of cherries, oak, vinegar, brett funk, dark fruits, and red wine from the barrel. The smell was good but a bit dull.
T - Plenty of sour cherries up front never really giving way throughout. Quite a bit red wine from the barrel mixes with some vanilla sweetness and bready yeast to round out the flavors. The finish is pretty dry. I liked this one quite a bit.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Nice overall feel between the fruit and funk, both lingering thru the finish.
O - I really enjoyed this one but it left me wanting a bit more. I think a bit of time in the bottle would do this one wonders. I hope to try this one again in the future.

from warren’s funky 9. acetic acid notes. hot alcohol in the nose. surprisingly mellow flavor. aged fruit flavors, cherry. sharper sour finish. murky red hued brown color. not so hot in alcohol in flavor as the nose lets on. a bit of a phenolic note in finish.

I believe this was a pour from a bottle at the Iron Hill Belgium Comes to West Chester event. Hard to be sure given the pour methods.
Pours a moderate brown color with a touch of rusty red. Decent retention and a bit of a collar as it goes down.
The nose carries smooth bread and light caramel underneath a bit of combined lactic and acetic acid. Tart of cherry there as well. Flavor is similar. It’s a bit too light and lacking complexity, but is otherwise quite smooth. While the acidity is a bit underwhelming, the resulting smoothness makes it quite drinkable.
Medium body. Low-ish carbonation level. Overall, a nice attempt at the style, and quite easy to drink.

Previous notes...Pour red amber in color. The aroma brings sour notes and light cherry juiciness, lovely. The wild yeast dominates nicely with sour cherries on such a smooth body. Tap, Lancaster, backlog. Pours a dark red to ruby brown body with a small frothy off-white head that hung around for a bit. The nose is slightly sour and tart with a light hint of oak and subtle vinegar. The flavor is nicely dried out and not sweet or sticky at all. Nice raw oakiness on the back end. A little bit of an acetic bite on the finish as well, but restrained enough to not cross into that instant heartburn area. Some Cheerio like cereal grain on the finish. The mouthfeel is fairly full and thick with a nice chewy texture despite it being so dry, a pretty hard trick to pull off. A pretty nice beer, rather well balanced and among the best American efforts I’ve had at the style. Quickly fading tan head dark amber with brownish notes... Winey vinegary dark fruits cherry lightly astringent aroma, mildly sweet... Very earthy the sweet and sour is very muddled light... Amber-brown colour with no head. Woody, balsamic, malty Flemish Sour aroma. Tart front, with cherry, wood in the middle, getting very tart in the finish. Good, balanced example.
