At the Iron Hill Belgium Comes to West Chester event. Medium body and fairly sweet; too much so. Mild dark fruits and yeast. Light oak in the background.

Opaque very dark brown beer. Some oak and sour malt on the nose. Semi soft palate with next to no carbonation. Sour dark malt with a bare whisper of marmite - well integrated. Oaky sweet note but no vanilla. Dark fruit - a little cherry and plums, surrounded by chocolate liquer. Trace of dried fruits. The beer goes down easily and it’s complex flavour makes every sip an anticipation.

Pours an opaque mahogany with nary a head to speak of. There are some big bubbles that fade immediately after a vigorous pour. No lacing but some boozy legs on the sides.
Aroma is massive, just massive. Where to start...big sweet malt backbone with lots of candy sugar and dark fruits - figs, raisins, overripe plums. Throw in a hint of lest her and some substantial oak and alcohol and you’ve got a stunning nose.
Taste is similar but the sweetness is so thick that it really gets cloying. Molasses, brown sugar, caramelized fruits, all just coating the mouth completely. The oak is present but can’t find its way though the sweetness much.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with very little carbonation. It’s crazy sweet and cloying on the palate.
Well, the nose on this one is fantastic but the taste and mouthfeel don’t quite stack up. Over the top sweet with low carbonation, this is certainly not the most drinkable beer. An enjoyable sipper. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 31, 2011
750mL @Pre-Sex 2011. Poured a hazy, brown amber with white bubbles and no head really forming. Aroma is malty, dusty, attic wood, sour fruits, Worcestershire sauce, big barelywine toffee and date/fig notes, and then some ash and cigarette smoke. Taste is just 100% bruised red apples so I’m guessing some form of acetaldehyde. Drain pour.

Bottle thanks to jkwalking05. The smell is alcohol, whiskey, wood, fruits, toffee, caramel, and good. The look is brown, clear, and not much head but some legs. (750ml 2007 vintage via trade with BA TroyG2352 rating #1100!) Pours clear ruby brown with a ring of bubbles. Nose of vanilla, sherry, rum raisins, figs, dates, and bourbon. This smelled so complex and incredibly delicious. Taste of raisins, warming alcohol, rum, very sweet, vanilla, pipe tobacco, wood, cinnamon apples, maple, and caramel. The taste was as complex and delicious as ANY beer I’ve ever had. The finish was creamy, carbonation was perfect, and the linger is extremely long. Tons of dried fruit flavor. What an AMAZING beer. I finally found one of the 5 island beers. Meaning, if someone asked what would be the 5 beers you’d take with you to an island, this would definitely be one of them.
