Bottle 750ml. corked.
Clear dark black red brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is heavy malty, chocolate, dark chocolate, moderate roasted. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, chocolate, dark malt, dark chocolate. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
[At GABF 2004] A dark red-brown beer with a small disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet with loads of chocolate notes. The flavor is also sweet with strong notes of bitter chocolate, leading to a dry end, and it’s got a powerful body. joergen (28949) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 19, 2007

Opaque black beer. Light palate for a RIS, a little dry, quite soft and airy. Not roasty or bitter but a ton of dark malt. Mild lactose. Subtle hint of dark fruits. Mild chocolate and coffee in the finish. A nice RIS but for me doesn’t reach that luxuriant feel and flavour of the best. A bit nit picky because this is a good beer!
UPDATED: JUN 17, 2007 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of sk8viking. Black and opaque with a small, creamy, light brown head. Aroma of vanilla, dried fruit and roasted malt. Very full and rich body, sweet, smooth and a little flat. Lots of vanilla and dried fruit and roasted malts. Soft finish with a subdued bitterness. Very well balanced. This is excellent stuff. 160607

(Hand bottle 33 cl) Courtesy of Kramer 17801. Black and almost opaque - there’s a vague reddish hue - with a light brown head. Sweetish aroma of burned malt and some licorice. Very full-bodied with lots of roasted malt, a lightly burned edge but otherwise dominated by sweet, English licorice and some whiffs of coffee. Very subdued bitterness. 8/3/8/3/16=3.8 090407
Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Padraig. Pours black with a dense, creamy beige head. The nose has a lot of burnt marshmallows, cocoa, earth. Medium sweet flavor with mild roast, some dark fruits, burnt earth, charred grains, raisins. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with lots of char character, ash, baking cocoa, burnt marshmallow, earth, grains. Pretty well balanced overall. Rasmus40 (21687) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - NOV 9, 2012
