Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured a black color with faint orange highlights and an enormous foamy brown head that lingered and left excellent lacing. The aroma was dryish and woody with anise, a hint of cocoa and floral hops. The flavor was dry, bitter and roasty with notes of wood, cola, floral hops, anise and a touch of smoke. Long finish. Medium body but noticeably thin for the style. Decent but disappointing for a style I tend to love. retinadoc (243) - - DEC 30, 2016
Draft. Disappointing. Aroma and initial flavors are solid coffee and dark malt, but these quickly disintegrate into distinct disparate sugary and bitter elements. It’s almost as if this brew was stirred together and the components hadn’t had enough time to adequately mix. It’s akin to sugar coated ginseng candy - you can taste the sugar and the bitter root at the same time. Too sugary overall. raymow (1803) - Bensalem, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 2, 2016
on tap at Maple Shade - super dark in color. Slight coffee aroma and flavor. Very good. ffaoe (960) - Moorestown, New Jersey, USA - DEC 31, 2015

16oz can via trade extra. Pours a black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate milkshake and some coffee. Taste is malt bitter, low hop presence. Flavors of chocolate candy bar (AZ style sweet/dry stout), light coffee. Good and thick like my black dildo. Alcohol kept in check. This beer is pretty good.

Pours pitch black and nearly opaque with only faint mahogany edges and a two finger frothy beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention for the style and ABV taking a while to settle and leaving streaks of soapy lacing in its path. MrHangover (4693) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - NOV 23, 2015
Deeply roasted robust dark malt aroma with hints of gourmet coffee bean, burnt sugar, toast and dark chocolate countered by lighter malt sweetness. Hints of caramel, toffee, silky dessert-like chocolate, licorice and dark fruit.
Chewy and viscous full with robust dark malt flavor that’s perfectly balanced by sweeter dark malt notes. Very nice roast with tasting burnt or acrid. Gourmet coffee bean flavor along with, burnt toast bittersweet dark chocolate, oatmeal and liquid smoke. This is countered by slight lactic creaminess, sweet chocolate, licorice and hazelnut. Very smooth and easy drinking considering the complexity and high ABV. One of Iron Hill’s best beers.
Bottle @ Deans Sticky Bomb Shelter Tasting, thnx to the crew for sharing! Pours a pitch black beer with a very small tanned head on top. Aroma of herbal stuff, pruney, some chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is weird, a bit soapy, roasty, loads of sweet molasses in there. Slightly burnt aftertase. Weird, but fun. 77ships (11411) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - NOV 23, 2015
Thanks to kermis! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ “Dean’s sticky Bomb Shelter” Tasting. Black, small mocha head only on the sides. Nose is herbal, molasses, syrup, licorices. Taste is molasses, licorice, syrup, herbal, molasses, light roast. Thick molasses body. Very UK-style, classical. Nothing spectacular but very substantial & nice to drink. Good stuff. deanso (10126) - Chiang Mai, THAILAND - NOV 21, 2015
Bottle sampled at Kermis’s Birthday tasting.
Thin creamy tan head. Clear black pour. Complex afteraste. Lovely imperial stout.
