On draft at the IH WC location. Pour was gold yellow with some brown-orangey hues, but way lighter than I expected. Head was moderate, lacing decent. The aroma was lighter fruits, maybe as dark as some raisins, but other than that yeast, faint spices. Flavor followed, oak elements also present. Alcohol tame, but I was thinking this was gonna be like St. Bernie’s 12, so maybe that’s why. Mouthfeel was lighter than anticipated also, well carbonated. Not a bad BSA, IH. The description notes that it’s brewed from inspiration from the Westy 8. It’s very, very good, but doesn’t quite match Westy’s near perfection of the style. I have to give Iron Hill major props for making this happen. They got pretty close in mirroring the Westy. Iron Hill’s offering is a little lighter in color, pouring a dark brown hue with a beautiful and bubbly off-white head. The nose is full of fruits, yeast, bread and very light hops. The body is lightly carbonated with a malty mouthfeel. The flavors are very well-balanced, with notes of earth, bread, yeast, malt, raisins, light vanilla, oak, golden rum and a hint of alcohol. Maybe my comparison to the Westy is a little unfair, but Iron Hill tried to get there; and they got very close! This is a very delicious beer!
