On tap at the Wilmington brewpub. Very fine fruit and grain aroma. A smokey brew that is close to being a rauchbier. Malty and sweet, with a compote-like taste. A really good scotch ale. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - MAR 10, 2010
The beer poured a hazy orange color with a medium sized off-white head. Toffee malt aroma with a touch of smoke. Malty flavor with some light smoky notes. The beer had a dry finish with a light bitterness. Light bodied. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 15, 2010
750ml from Iron Hill, Media. Full bodied pour, dark amber, with a nice robust head. Soft fragrant malts in the nose, with a deep but inobtrusive fruity component too. Slight yeasty and bready tang too. Mouthfeel is quite nice, smooth and creamy in a way that complements the richness of the brew. Nothing cloying about the sweetness either, particularly as it’s backed up by some smoke and peat that work well. There’s nothing especially distinctive about IH’s rendition of the style, but everything is so damn on point that it’s a real winner. MrBendo (1064) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Draft at Media. Hazy orange/brown color with a minimal head. Aroma of rich malts, caramel and toffee, some generic fruitiness with a bit of smokiness.
Bitter spicy hops on the tail end. Finishes clean with s little spice. A kick-ass brew.

750 ml bottle at PPRBSG. Pours a bright cloudy orange- a bit lighter than expected- and a foamy yet diminshing head. Aroma is earthy- leathery a bit ont he wet dog side- big orangey toasty malts, caramel and toffee sweetness, and some nice big raisin fruitiness. Flavor is big malts, that have shown a bit of age- slight oxidation comes in a bit- toast, wet paper, caramel nuts, dried earth, dust, and leather with a bready yet herbal finish- strange Wee Heavy. decaturstevo (6257) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JUN 23, 2009
Light brown/gold pour with off white head and lace. Aroma of light brown sugar and caramel malt. Sweet caramel malt with a hint of bitter. Medium bodied and a tad fizzy but very nice beer. JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 14, 2009
Deep golden-orange beer. Thick sticky white head. Aroma is sweet and lightly smoky with a touch of chewy caramelly maltiness. Fairly light in colour which is unusual, but it still works. Chewy and sweet with a fairly complex maltiness. Light candy and a bit of toasted nuts. LilBeerDoctor (3997) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 4, 2009
Bottle at PPRBSG09. Pours a cloudy light brown. Aroma of sweet, light butterscotch. Flavor is rather sweet, with some mint (?) and booze in the finish. Not bad for a wee heavy, actually, but I didn’t love it either.
