COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark, hardy, thick, rich, roasted and chocolaty, this ale is amazingly smooth due to the generous addition of whole oats. Named for a friend of Iron Springs and easily the finest pedal steel player around, Barry Sless, this one is layered with flavors.

Gerbeer (3754) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 7, 2016
On tap. Pours black with light head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of sweet black coffee and roasted malts. Flavors of licorice, sweetened coffee, chicory and sharp roasted malts. Tasty

A bomber hared with Strykzone on Facebook chat. In the glass was black. But this was after a giant gusher. What a mess!!! Anyway it took a long time to manage to get a pint glass full;. The rest was lost to foam Tan head. Lots of tan head. Too much tan head. Nose of chocolate. Full body and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is roasted malts with lots of chocolate/ Some coffee in the finish. Very good beer after dealing with the foam. Too bad this was over carbonate. My only knock on what was otherwise an excellent beer.

Strykzone (7360) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2016
Bomber from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Huge gusher! Made a mess for both of us. Over carbonated! But it is a nice looking beer. Almost black with a dark multi colored tan head. Oatmeal, chocolate, and roast in the aroma. Also the flavor. Bitter dark chocolate and roast. Just a little citrus and caramel. Things smoothed out nicely mid glass and this became very tasty. The finish was dry and bitter chocolate. Too bad we lost so much beer from the over carbonation but this was good stuff.

Zymurgeist2 (2246) - Redwood City, California, USA - MAR 20, 2014
From bottle to pint glass. Aroma of strong chocolate. Alcohol present and sweet malt. Opaque with almost no head. Oily, inky color. Taste is oily, moderate low chocolate, alcohol warmth. Husky roast coffee characters. No real oat silkiness. Low carbonation. Finishes semi-dry. A beer that is searching too hard to find itself and is generally lacking.

Really smooth coffee-like taste. Quite sweet. Goes suprisingly well also with sweet and sour Asian dishes.

Backlog of ratings. Thanks to someone at one of bu11zeye’s tastings. The look is brown to block in color, clear, and not much head. The smell is weak, coffee, malts, and toast. The taste is weak, coffee, malts, and oats.
