3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask (handpump) at the Irwell Works brewery tap, Ramsbottom, on 27 December 2012. After starting off with three pale beers, time for a change of pace to something darker. One of those dark beers that is difficult categorise in fact. I found more roast and cocoa than hops, so let’s call it a porter. Dark brown, not black. Smooth on the palate. Prominent chocolate in the aroma. Quite roasty on the palate. Hops less so. Very drinkable and tasty though. Dry, slightly powdery mouthfeel.
Bottle from D Byrne, Clitheroe. Black with an extremely thin off-white head. Has a dry roasted malt aroma, with its chocolate very evident in its taste, and also quite dry DedicatedToFun (4003) - Santa Monica, California, USA - AUG 8, 2014
Bottle, black pour, tan head, nose is chocolate, taste is chocolate, overall pretty decent beer
