2008-02-01. Bottle. Lightly hazy dark ruby amber body with a small off white head. Slightly odd earthy toasty malt aroma, light fruity character. Sweet base, with dry toast character light fruity notes, hints at caramel. (6+) Average palate. Pleasant but underwhelming. thewolf (12802) - Kolding, DENMARK - JAN 19, 2008
Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours a deep brownish red with a great medium creamy lightly off white head. Aroma has cara-amber and light grassiness. Quite light mouthfeel. Flavour is pretty sweet, very caramel malty based. A light dryness appears at the end. Okay, but not a fantastic bitter. Doppelganger (1389) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - NOV 25, 2007
Cask, The Isles Inn, Portree. (And a few other pubs around town.) Ruddy copper, very persistent off-white head. Leathery dried fruit aroma, dates, a nice earthy touch. Clean, surprisingly dry leaning malt flavor with a gentle chocolate toasty finish. A beer that seems to be quite variable, even here on Skye. When in top form, this is really very good, but in less than optimal conditions it does go down hill quickly. pivnizub (10811) - Bochum, Porř, GERMANY - NOV 12, 2007
Bottle (purchased at the brewery): In fact reddish-amber coloured, smaller lacing persistent off-white head, dark-malty and fruity (raspberries?) nose with a discreet hoppiness in the wings; moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied, malty-fruity finish with a balancing bitterness. Good.......... maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - SEP 20, 2007
Bottled. A chestnut brown coloured beer with a hint of ruby and an of-white head. The aroma is malty and nutty. The taste is dry and nutty. More malty notes, and the merest hint of fruit. Quite plain but drinkable enough.

Bottle. Slightly murky reddish-brown with a small head. Aroma of roasted malt, Fuggles hops, a touch of caramel, and a hint of peat. Flavour follows pretty closely, with the peatiness becoming more prominent as it warms up. Not a bad little ale. cgarvieuk (25987) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 1, 2007
Light ruby coloured, sweet malt nose , grassy maly little bitter grapfruit in linger. faroeviking (11217) - Chupando chellas es como ellas, FAROE ISLANDS - MAR 5, 2007
Bottle. Amber colour with a nice mostly diminishing whtish head. Aroma of roasty malt, smoke, some chocolate. rather thin mothfeel. Flavour of roasty malt and some smoke, bitter hops, bit of metal, caramel and dried fruits. Bitter finish. MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 10, 2007
Any first impressions?
-A creamy sheet of foam covers the glowing garnet clarity.
-Cherries and cranberries revolve around the distinct caramel in the nose.
-Distinguished caramel continues its dominance once tasted, with fruity undertones shifting shapes.
-The well-extracted maltiness and soothing carbonation produce a comforting mouthfeel.
What if you dig deeper?
-The drying bready finish does have a few supporting hops.
-Roastiness broadens the malt’s reach.
-When perfectly tendered, this malty scottish ale has a balanced flavor profile and interesting complexity which grew on me at the second pint.
On cask at the Bosville Hotel, and The Isles Inn, both in Portree.
