Draught at Rogue, San Francisco (as Smoke Frog). Opaque very dark brown, small beige head. Earthy chocolatey nose. Sweet and mildwith some tar, just notes of smoke and lots of chocolate. Medium-full bodied with salty tarry finish. Remarkably good. bhensonb (15758) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 11, 2007
As Uber Frog Smoked Porter on tap at the SF alehouse. Decent smoky aroma. Opaque brown/black color with a decent tan head. Medium bodied. Near creamy carbonation. The flavor is smoke, and some darkly toasted malt. But it’s mainly smoke. That is also the finish. Almost dry and smoked. A true rauchbier. As smoky as smoked gouda or even more so. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - NOV 4, 2007
Draft at the Issaquah Brewhouse. Jet black with grainy ebony brown highlights. Very thin rim of tan, mousse, no lace. Thick, creamy, fairly still body. Deep roasty notes, some chocolate, and light smoke on the nose. Mid-palate bring the roast, chocolate, and smoke around again for another big splash, with the smoke growing more and more prominent until it finally takes over and dominates on the finish. Nice stuff but not a world-beater. cathcacr (647) - Oregon, USA - OCT 20, 2007
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2007 Just had this at the Rogue public house in downtown PDX; the helpful waitstaff brought out a sampler of 4 drafts (Mocha Porter, Brutal Bitter, Hoppy Frog, and this one) and this was the standout choice for the pint. Halfway through the pint I was enjoying the hell of out of this. I’m going back for a re-do, because this was damn good. It probably reminded me most of 3F’s Alpha Klaus (it’s been a while, though), it is such the fine rich Porter. There’s smoke, there’s sweet, there’s big flavor of molasses (or whatever it is that gives it this rich sweet character), this has it all. Maybe on my second tasting I’ll get thoughts down on paper/napkin. Delish!

A deep dark beer with a deep rich smokey aroma. This was the best beer of the night. Had some deep flavors and the rish smokey peat and dark malts this was a tastey brew. I really liked the overall complexity of this beer.
9/22/07 On draught at the Elysian AHA event. Aroma is sweet roast malt. Appearance is clear gold with no head. Flavor is heavy black patent forward with a sour roast/smoke maltiness. Mouthfeel is medium/high bodied. Overall, this was an interesting brew, but just not easy drinking.
