Bottle drink by December. Label says it’s amber, but it’s much darker than that. Stout-like beige head and yeast detritus in the bottom. Body has some heft to it, and carbonation is soft. I didn’t realize this was supposed to be a saison (a dark saison!) but recognized the yeast. Also, there’s banana, clove and slight roastiness. Lots of favors here, but it’s a bit sloppy. yinzerbeernut (180) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 7, 2009
Murky dark brown with a touch of red on site. Almost tan head that is continuously fed by heavy carbonation. Prominent spice nose with a touch of wood, cigar, and/or leather. This is a medium bodied ale with rich malt flavor and a hint of sour. The finish is forward on tongue with a feel of leather. ditmier (1508) - Boise, Idaho, USA - NOV 7, 2009
2009 Bottle - Thanks j12601! - Pours a dark brown with a large beige head...aroma is spicy and dry, dk fruit and anise...flavour is similar, cinnamon and cardamom, light bubblegum and banana, yeasty esters...neither sweet or dry, nicely balanced and interesting... A deep ruby red with a thin lacing moka head. In aroma, pleasant nutmeg, molasses and licorice. In mouth, a rather nice sweet candy sugar with licorice and cardamom. Medium bodied. On tap at Empire Brewing Co., Syracuse, Oct. 25 2009. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - NOV 6, 2009
Tap at Bobbique. Pours a deep woody brown, hazy and a modest head- not much lace- a bit darker than expected even for a dark saison. Aroma is spicy, phenolic, yeasty, black pepper, cardamon, a bit harsh and some moderate fruity ester twang. More fruits in the flavor, toffee, brown sugar, chocolate covered caramel, phenolic yeast, modest sweet, and finishes a slight sweet with full blah- caramel and toffee malts light roasty twang- not dry enough, carbonation on tap seemed a bit low.

Bottle at pilsnerpeter’s. Thanks to everybody for their generosity. Dark reddish with ring. Leather berries earth yeast caramel spice aroma. Earthy spicy sugary bubblegum with spicy leathery finish. Nice palate. Good. Bonster (182) - Jersey Shore, New Jersey, USA - OCT 31, 2009
Bottle via coldbrewky. Pours a dark copper brown with a sticky, cream colored head. Aroma is spicy yeast, malt, toffee, and a hint of fruit. Nice Belgian flavor, dark malt sweetness up front, spice and bananas, mild hops and yeast. The finish is a little musky barnyard minus the manure. Solid brew. Deep dark brown pour. The nose is quite intense. Some banana and spicy with a heavy intensely plasticy character. A little bit of brown malt behind a bit of toast. The yeast is really out of whack here and I do not like this at all… one of the worst attempts at saison, and that is really saying something these days. mjs (7413) - Helsinki, FINLAND - OCT 29, 2009
(Draught at BA’s BBF’09) Poured dark brown and cloudy with medium sized white head. Aroma of spices and malts. Medium bodied palate with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sourness, molasses, bitterness, spiciness and hops. Malty aftertaste. Sammy (12212) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 26, 2009
Boring Belgian, had at Clark’s Ale House in Syracuse. Very yeasty, medicinal. Dark colour.
