Pours a deep, dark golden copper color that appears almost grown in the glass with a two finger, off-white head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention, taking a while to settle and coating the glass with soapy lacing on the way down.
Slightly floral hop aroma that’s overpowered by a prominent sweet malt profile. Not much about the nose of this beer reminds me of an IPA/hoppy beer. Hardly any hop character at all with lots of sweet and leathery malt character. Sweet caramel and toffee with hints of bread, biscuit and dark fruit. Pretty bland.
Medium body with a blast of stale dirty hops that lingers over a prominent malt backbone into a bone dry finish. Earthy, soil-y and extremely bitter with piney, grassy hops countered by sweet and leathery malt notes. Hints of shoe leather and creek water followed by subtle caramel sweetness, toffee, dark fruit and stale bread. Astringent metallic finish that leaves a really unpleasant aftertaste. I’m not sure how old this beer is at this point but it isn’t very good at all. User37895 (3042) - - AUG 10, 2014
Pour was deep red and big head ok lacing. Aroma of citrus and line and strong caramel. Flavor was strong caramel and almost a peaty smoke character. Malty as all get out. Do these guys also brew Flower Power? Hard to believe after drinking this one. Mouthfeel was full and malty. zach8270 (4022) - Henrietta, New York, USA - JUN 8, 2014
(bottle - 12 oz) Dark copper pour with a thick off-white head. Big hop and peppery aroma with some dry citrus. Flavor is really hoppy and bitey but also smokey somehow. Shockingly mild finish with an earthy hoppy aftertaste. Beerathon (1683) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 8, 2014
Cascazilla is one of my favorite red ales, therefore I imagined I’d love this. I was wrong. It’s a malt bomb with muddled hops and unneeded booziness. Mediocre. bth122 (1567) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 12, 2014
Bottle. Poured a reddish brown color. Aroma of caramel, malt syrup, floral citrus hop, cherries. Medium bitterness. Some roast malts. Sugars. Syrup malts. Good balance and a bitter finish. Heavy bodied. A big beer. Interesting.

Draft at Moriartys. Appeared to be an opaque black pour at first but showed to be a dark clear rusted brown under bright light. Foamy off-white head that left a lot of lace. Strong blunt cigars and dark fruit. Bitter brandied plums. Earthy hops. Truffles. Birch. Varnish. Liquid raisins. Peppers. Liquorice. Band-Aid. Medium-full body. Big ladting spicy fonish. Flavors are a bit harsh but in good balance. Not subtle but pleasantly abrasive. SSSteve (4006) - - JAN 8, 2014

Bottle. Pours out a slightly cloudy reddish-brown color with a thin off white to tan head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, toasted malts, light citrus hop notes. Taste is lots of rich caramel, toffee, almost a root-beer flavor, syrup, mild citrus bitterness, some floral notes and a light sticky alcohol warmth on the finish. this one was eh.... This is a crazy beer. It has an intense smokiness that overwhelms any significant hop flavor. Hard to drink a lot of it but a lot of fun to try. jb (3254) - Rochester, New York, USA - DEC 16, 2013
This is one odd duck. Looks dark red/amber, very English. Nose is pink grapefruit. Nice. Taste is caramel malt, pine, a bit of booze, some barley-wine-is feel, not my favorite but very interesting, and a bit over the top.
