750 ml bottle from Root Cellar. Pours a hazy bright orange with a big off-white head and plenty of yeast floaters, especially later in the bottle. The orange and lemon peel - and maybe the Citra and Sorachi Ace, even after a few years - are lending a ton of sweet citrus and tropical fruits to this one. Orange, tangerine, apricot, melon, and pear, with vanilla, wheat, sugary bread, and a *slight* bit of buttered popcorn. Just a touch. Rated on 7-28-2012 (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a medium sized fizzy white head that mostly diminishes, yellow transparent body, fizzy, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, yeast, citrus hops, sweet, and oranges. The flavor is sweet, bitter, malt, yeasty, and citrus hops. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer has a bitter aftertaste. The very citrusy and bitterness strongly come through in the taste of this beer. (bottle - 750 ml) Hazy orange pour with a thin white head. Considering its age, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but there’s still a ton of citrus and spicy hops in the aroma. A lot of sweetness though. Notes from earlier...pours clear golden orange with a big white head. Aroma and flavor are both big citrus lemony hops in a smooth body with a decent hop bite. Fresh it was so juicy and delicious.

A: Dusky cardboard colored ale with a couple fingers of really light yellow foam falls to a sheet of the same, broken at times. Roped sheets of lace. I like the look.
S: Leather, citrus, vinyl, peppercorns, some corn and wheaty sweetness. Definitely short of wheat dominant, and I’m uncertain if I dig the nose here, gimme a minute. Minute and half a beer later, it’s got a bit of a plastic smell. Nope, don’t really dig it.
T: Really bitter, pointers of sweet bran syrup, and bitter orange peels. Chemical flavors and some yeast.
M: This beer is super dry, really really dry. It’s got real interesting finish as my mouth waters so hard on the breath back. The carb is lively and balances the heavy feel well.
O: Not really feeling this beer. But it is not particularly offensive. Below average for me, but I’m not really an expert on Wheat Wines. Conversely, this one seems hoppy, indicating it doesn’t really fit the traditional profile.

750ml bottle, capped. Orange color, tall white, creamy foam. Floral aroma, citrus hops, orange blossoms, pale malts, puffed wheat, rolled oats, band-aids. Flavor of pale grains, floral hops flavors, citrus zest. Sharp hops bitterness, pine bark bite. Aged perfectly, smooth taste, creamy body.

750 ml bottle shared with the group. Pours a cloudy orange amber color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have a strong juicy citrus burst, floral notes, wheat grass, lightly toasted malts. The citrus in the flavor is less juicy and more zest. 8/31/2011: Excelsior Thirteen Anniversary Ale (Malt Beverage Brewed with Citrus Peel Double Hoppy Wheat Ale; made with Citra and Sorachi Ace hops)... Aroma: Yummy aroma; cornucopia of juicy citrus; slightly floral. Appearance: Opaque orange color; foamy beige or slightly ivory-colored head. Flavor: Mild maltiness covered by a good level of citrusy (light in the mouth, not the thick juicy fruitiness sometimes found in hoppy beers) bitterness with a tinge of pine; wheat malt is nice because it adds body without adding much sweetness or heft to the feel; a bit of alcohol coming through in the backend. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; well carbonated; nice mouthfeel. Overall: I don’t mind hoppy wheat ales, but the wheatiness is somewhat lost and gets buried by the typically aggressive hops.
