From Feb 2006
Poured from bottle(room temp) a cloudy light gold with a very small head of foam that dissipated quickly leaving just a sporadic layer with a bit of lacing.
The smell has a fruity earthiness to it and I could also sense some spiciness as in clove tones.
The taste is quite complex. I note an earthy sweetness offset by citrusy tartness and there's spiciness from cloves and they all work really well together. I haven't had that much experience with Saisons but if this one is a "typical" example, I need to investigate further. ;^)
Bottom line: I bought a sixpack of this(along with 3 other JR brews)
and had it shipped directly from the brewery. I'm *glad* I did. This is a really drinkeable, true to form(?) tasting saison that I can easily recommend. slowrunner77 (13204) - Reno, Nevada, USA - JUL 26, 2015
UPDATED: AUG 18, 2015 Growler of regular and blackberry. Both ok, nothing to write home about. Some light pepper, citrus and belgiany yeast in the base, liked the fruited one juuust a touch less. Homer321 (5248) - Melboring, Florida, USA - JUL 23, 2014
Draft at brewery. Light pepper in the nose followed by a punch of medicinal notes that dominate the flavor as well. Some alcohol warming noted as well. 5000 (6900) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle:   Orange hued golden, pale haze, moderate sudsy white head, sparce lacing.   Somewhat of a musty barnish nose, not too floral tho.   Sweet musty hay and straw on the tongue.   Pale fruitiness.   Not
heavy, but not too bright either.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Tiz okay, but not as floral or bright as others.   Thankfully not a bready example like so many other American versions. thetmaxx (927) - West Sacramento, California, USA - SEP 29, 2012
Poured from the bottle that was picked up at Apple Hill. Aroma is slightly sour malt. flavour is very typical of what I expect a farmhouse to be, how ever it finishes very sweet. thin lacing on glass, cloudy straw colour. Palate is thin and very easy to drink, @ 6.7% this is very easy to drink.

Not sure what kind of farmhouse ale tastes like corn and spent grains, but that’s what this brewery is calling this beer. Some coconut and spices in the flavor too, but the flavor of grain husks is overpowering. The nose is sweet and honey-like, but also quite husky in character. Medium in weight and carbonation, but the huskiness contributes a dusty astringency on the palate. Very hazy in appearance, golden in color, and capped by a short, off-white head that settles to a thin ring. Not enjoyable.
A hazy straw colored pour with a two finger white head that quickly disappears.Aroma of belgian yeast funk, spicy and fruity, some very nice clove scent some peppercorn, citrus zest A slight fruitiness, with some hints at banana.
The flavor is close to the aroma, yeasty funk all the way, earthy, slight fruit and pepper notes, lemon zest and a touch of grass, some nice light pale malt flavor with just a dash of alcohol. Medium body with lively carbonation, nice dry/lasting finish with a lingering spice aftertaste.
A very nice brew,I would buy this often if I could get it locally.

(12 oz btl) Frothy white head fully diminishes w/ no lacing; cloudy straw color. Strong clove and citrus peel in nose w/ little to no malt. Lively carbonation adds to sharp tang of clove w/ little other noticeable character - slightly astringent. Aftertaste is almost entirely clove; yeast is barely detectable. ~Pours a cloudy light golden color with big fluffy white head. (In tulip glass)
~Spicy clove scent with some coriander and apple.
~Spicy fruity flavor, just like an Abbey ale, but with more wheat.
~A light crisp feel finished with a sharp dry spicy finish.
~ I thought this was a really good brew. Not sure why all the bad ratings. I think I may have gotten a fresh batch since it was bought from the brewery. Very nice. hayduke (5731) - Eureka, California, USA - APR 20, 2008
From a 12 oz bottle this poured gp;d with a very light haze, small white head, and a small amount of lacing. Nose of caramel malts and fruit. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is citrus and light malts. Not much finish. Really easy to drink however.
