Got this bottle for Christmas. Pours with a minimal head.Smells so rich and sweet. It’s got a rich, thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely world class barrel aged barleywine style. This is another great beer from Jack’s Abby. superspak (6638) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - FEB 1, 2015
Got in a BIF from ZebraCakez. 500 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/12/2014. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, prune, fig, date, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and oak/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, prune, fig, date, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and oak/toasted earthiness. Slight oaky bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, prune, fig, date, vanilla, bourbon, oak, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Absolutely insane complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an amazing malt/barrel balance and no cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and very full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is amazing. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely world class barrel aged barleywine style. All around insane complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, dark fruit, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. An absolutely mind blowing offering. Pours thick darker chestnut with almost no head, a bit of beige when you see the head and bubbles. The aroma is sweet honey and malts blended smoothly in the nose. The beer is behind smooth for a crazy high ABV starting with some sweet malts that turn into a caramel bar with subtle berries all blended so pleasantly in the palate. Wow! 500ml bottle in a teku. Pours deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of strong caramel and toffee from the malts, bourbon and oak and vanilla, some light bitterness, and more maltiness. Flavor the same with a lot of toffee on the finish. Smooth, thicker texture. A very solid beer. davey101 (751) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 7, 2015
09/12/2014. Pours a dark brown almost black with a finger of lazy tan foam. Nose is smokey wood without being savory, vanilla, molasses, and some dark fruits. Smells massive and bourbon heavy. Taste is brown sugar, prunes, vanilla, oak and toffee. Lingering wood and molasses. Certainly boozy but not in a detracting way. Thick and syrupy, but not at the Bruery level. Pretty massive with tons of flavor, hell of a shelf beer. marcus (11149) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 27, 2015
Bottle shared by my friend Bruce. Pours orange brown with a tiny beige head and a massive alcohol and fruit aroma. There is a sticky sweet malt flavor with a huge alcohol finish. The flavor starts strong then fades away.
