There are many dragons out there, some are made of gold but we decided to create a black one. Zwarte Draak is a well balanced belgian imperial black ale.

Murky Brown colour, no head.
Heavy licorice saltiness, syrupy sweetness, really heavy, lightly bitter, light funky yeastiness, ABV very evident.
Fullbodied, soft carbonation, syrupy feel, boozy finish.
Powerful, but not sophisticated.

Bottle. Wooden, spongy and iodine aroma. Dark brown, foamy brown head. Medium full dry body, iodine licorice salts, light vanilla. Quite dry. Herb and licorice aftertaste.

Bottle, many thanks konstifik! Darkest brown color with white head. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, woody, iod, liquorice. Taste is chocolate, molasses, iod, even seems like it’s been barrel aged, also liquorice. Medium carbonation, full-bodied. Quite nice!

EerieDrinks (318) - Malm, SWEDEN - AUG 24, 2017
Thin, off-white stripe of a head.
Pitch black beer.

Aroma is dark chocolate, dried dark fruits, coffee and fresh red berries.

Taste is melted chocolate, coffee, raisins, roasted malts, smokey whiskey notes, slightly nutty and with an apparent alcohol that doesn’t make you shiver but still stings a bit too much for a higher score.

Mouthfeel is thick and rich, with a bitterness that almost bites your tongue off, and that is the only reason why its mouthfeel doesn’t get a full score, it’s TOO aggressive even for my twisted taste!

Overall: This is really leaning (in every direction) against a very alcoholic Imp. Stout and even Barley Wine rather than a BSA but superb stuff. Missing the ’belgian’ note? Sometimes it even feels like you’re sipping on a really tasty whiskey as it smoothes out as it warms up. Total beast of a brew and something I really recommend to anyone who likes beers that pack a punch.
