Bottle thanks to Phaleslu (I think). 2011 bottle 22oz. Pours a murky, or rather muddy, brown with minimal head. Brown in color. Nose is a boozy sugary sweetness. Taste is better than expected. I have to admit I was scared by the appearance. Strong fruitiness with some cherry skin flavor. Malt is sweet and fruity but slightly less than chewy. Moderate to strong alcohol in flavor and warming. Some higher alcohols are noticeable. Pretty good but I’ve had much better from JO ineedbeer (2209) - Oakland, California, USA - OCT 7, 2014
Poured from a 22 oz bottle, vintage 2011.
Aroma is malty with quite a bit of caramel and toffee. A nice cherry aroma with moderate bourbon and oak notes. Medium light alcohol spice.
Pours a cloudy burnt amber with a small tan head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and medium legs.
Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of malt character. Lots of caramel and toffee. Medium light cherry notes with some bourbon and oak. Medium bitterness and medium light alcohol spice.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth.
Overall, a better beer than the Bourbon Berry Grove. Not amazing though, and I don’t think the fruit adds much beneficial character. As it warms it gets better but it also gets a bit medicinal. drsordr (2778) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - MAR 1, 2014
Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour dark brown. Nose caramel, sweet rich malt, hint of cherry, minimal wood. Tatse some tart upfront, mild cherry, then caramel sweet. Mid palate some wood and honey. Finish mild tart and wood. Thick mouth. VsXsV (4523) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 28, 2013
Bottle. Hazy deep ruby liquid with medium light tan head. Aroma of cherries, wood, toffee, bread, raw sugar, lemon and bourbon. Taste is dry, light bitter and light sour with notes of wood, cherries, lemon and toffee. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Probably infected, but still nice. Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: The beer pours a clear dark amber color with a minimal white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of cherries, malt and wood. Full-bodied with flavors of mildly tart cherry, oak, caramel and toasted malt. The finish is fruity with a slight bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good all around. dcschiller (2208) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 17, 2013
Bottle #180. Pours dark orange-brown with a tan head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, cherry and wood. Taste is sweet cherries and some tartness. Medium bodied. Unique. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - NOV 8, 2012
22oz bottle courtesy of goryshkewych. Cheers, George. Pours a deep mahogany color with a tan head. Nose is sweet malt, lots of honey, bourbon, some light oak, sweet cherries, tart cherries, and vanilla. Flavor is similar- oak, caramel, and honey up front, sweet and tart cherries in the mid woth some bourbon and oak, finished off by tart cherries, oak, and mild bourbon. Nice wheat wine that improves as it warms. No idea that it is 12%, booze is well hidden. Ibrew2or3 (8748) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - SEP 1, 2012
Big thanks to dcschiller for opening this, and waiting to open it when I was around, thanks Dave! It pours deep copper with thin tan head. The aroma offers up sweetness, fresh oak and then a modest level of apple and peach esteriness in the background. The taste has pleasing balance where a firm degree of cherry and cherry skin tartness tries to dominate the flavor but some malty like sweetness and sweet dark fruity esters lead into some smooth modest bourbon notes into the finish. Solid! MadDogMD (215) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Shared by Dcschiller- thanks! Nose of sweet fruit, honey, slight sour. Nice flavors of wood, vanilla, some sweet malts, giving way to pit fruits, slight bitterness & finishing w/ tart cherries. Overall, a great balance of sweet/ sour. Fun beer!
