UPDATED: NOV 24, 2016 Pours opaque chocolate sable. Aroma delvers roast malt, bourbon, malty and woody tones. Flavor features maple syrup, rum, roast malt and bourbon notes. Mouthfeel offers firm body and lively fizz. ineedbeer (2323) - Oakland, California, USA - NOV 11, 2016
Poured from a 375 ml bottle of 2016 vintage.
Aroma is roasty with some dark caramel and toffee notes. Some light chocolate with moderate nut notes. Some medium light maple notes with a bit of bourbon and faint oak.
Pours black with a reddish dark brown hue on the edges with a medium small tan head that recedes to the edges where a small amount lingers. No lacing and medium legs.
Flavor is moderately sweet with medium chocolate notes and roast. Quite a bit of a nuttiness with some toffee and caramel. Medium bourbon notes with some maple and hints of oak. Light bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth.
Overall, a nice beer with lots of lighter malt notes for a stout. Good maple and bourbon notes but it could use more sweetness, mouthfeel and darker malt notes. Jokestereo (364) - SWEDEN - FEB 13, 2016

Draft to taster at Dutch’s. Looks good; a mostly opaque dark brownish black with beige head. Smells solid; dark malt, chocolate, maple syrup, and roast. Tastes like it smells, but better, with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. A great take on the style.

Draft. Poured a black color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted and produced excellent lacing. Moderate toasted dark chocolate and maple aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Good dark beer. On tap at Dutch’s. Dark red, very dark brown color. Almost black. Thin light brown head, some splotches and ropes of lace. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation. Bigger body, lightly slick. Not 9.4% big, though, pretty beguiling. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Roast malts, light spice, nice maple syrup finish. Just a very light bite at the end. Very nice, complex imperial maple porter. Can’t wait to try the bourbon barrel version. phaleslu (10957) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 2, 2014
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2014 Draft at MadTree’s Birthday Bash. I got a couple small pours, and unfortunately the first one had the dregs of the previous beer from the jockey box, so it was off. The second was the right beer. Deep brown, small beige bubbles. Roasted and chocolate malts, maple sweetness, a little earthiness. Nice and simple. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation. I want to try this again at the source. Nice beer. Re-Rate: Draft at Jackie-O’s. Tons of maple and sugar sweetness, balanced only by a leafy, earthy note. Not as good as I had thought. alexsdad06 (11377) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2014
Draft at Madtree. Pours a dark brown to black color with a medium sized khaki head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, mocha, and some nice maple syrup notes. Started a bit cold, but the flavor opens up with warming. Good body and mouth feel. Dogbrick (14386) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 20, 2013
Nitro sample at the brewpub, and off the tower at the production facility (rating for the latter). The beer is a dark brown color with a medium foamy beige head that dissipates slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee in the nose. Medium to full body with a roasty coffee and malt character, and flavors of maple and hops in the background. The finish is mocha and maple syrup. Good beer all around.
