Thanks to goryshkewych for this one in trade. Pours caramel brown with an off-white head. Nose is bourbon, caramel, raisin, brandy, and heat. Flavor is bourbony with barley wine flavors: brandy, raisins, and lots of heat. This one will burn nose hairs, but is surprisingly smooth in body and going down. Very enjoyable beer. Can’t wait for the next one from Jackie O’s.

Growler courtesy of Markise. POurs amber/brown. Nose is figgy, dark fruits, cherry, roast malt. Flavor is bourbon vanillan, oak, sweet malt, loads of fruit, sherry and slight mint. Beauty!

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a hazy dark reddish-brown color with a medium thin beige head that recedes quickly. Thin rings of lacing. Rich malty aroma with notes of bourbon and fruit. Full body with flavors of bourbon and oak, malt, caramel and a touch of hops. The finish is bourbon and fruit with a lingering boozy aftertaste. Pretty solid overall.

Sample at the brewpub. Murky brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of oak, booze, tartness and brown sugar. Oaky and boozy flavor up front, followed by a bit of chocolate, caramel and a bit sour on the finish.

July 17-19, 2008: Barrel Aged Barbarlian has a deep, deep ruby brown color and is murkey. A dense, beuige crown sits on top and provides good lacing. The aroma has vanilla, oak, and hints of bourbon. I like the amount and depth of the caramelized maltiness and chewy carament in the flavor. This beer has a medium-full body and is smooth. Overall it is balanced and quite tasty.

Draught sample at Jackie-Os Pub and Brewery in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2008. Rating #3 for this beer.

This was one of my top five favorite of the ohio brew week. A totally different beer than the barbarlian. Had a large amount of bourbon but it was balanced out by a huge huge dark fruit and caramel flavor. Also some lingering hops in this one. Very tastey beer. ABV was around 10.5% i believe.

On tap at Jackie-O.. pours dark, with a rich brown head... has a nice aroma that gives off malts and caramel.. taste is bitter, with some hops and plenty of malts... has hints of fruits
