cheers markwise for the growler.
Pours dark brown, thin beige head.
Aroma is light bourbon, wooden oak with caramel.
Flavor, insanely drinkable, wood, bourbon all over, caramel malts with hints of sweetness and fruits. Bourbon and wood added a nice subtle sweetness to the palate with lingering vanilla. Finishes smooth with hints of pepper/spice. bgburdman9 (861) - columbus, Ohio, USA - JUL 21, 2008
This was one of my top five favorite of the ohio brew week. A totally different beer than the barbarlian. Had a large amount of bourbon but it was balanced out by a huge huge dark fruit and caramel flavor. Also some lingering hops in this one. Very tastey beer. ABV was around 10.5% i believe. markwise (5450) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 19, 2009
Thanks to goryshkewych for this one in trade. Pours caramel brown with an off-white head. Nose is bourbon, caramel, raisin, brandy, and heat. Flavor is bourbony with barley wine flavors: brandy, raisins, and lots of heat. This one will burn nose hairs, but is surprisingly smooth in body and going down. Very enjoyable beer. Can’t wait for the next one from Jackie O’s. BeerVirgin72 (880) - Pickerington, Ohio, USA - DEC 18, 2009
Had on tap at Jackie O’s Anniversary Party. Rarely do I meet a Barley WIne I do not like. Nice aroma of bourbon. Sweet flavors of cherries, some vanilla, and definitely some heat from liquor. I kicked off my tasting with this beer because I am just kinda crazy that way. Yum! gkost (1069) - Alaska, USA - SEP 9, 2009

Growler courtesy of markwise. Pours a cola brown to black with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of bourbon, caramel, toffee, molasses, rum-soaked raisins, ripe dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of bourbon, vanilla, wood, light smoke, some slight sour malt, ripe fruit esters. Generally medium body with a slightly boozy finish. Tasty. Growler courtesy of markwise, thanks! It pours amber murkiness creating an average level of opacity with copper edges and thin tan head. The aroma has a pretty good load of oak and lighter notes of vanilla and bourbon. I don’t smell much in the way of beer in there. The taste is chewy goodness with notes of malts and a touch of roast before oak, a thin layer of vanilla, slick bourbony booze and more malts take this thing to the finish. To me it tastes and smells like it could have used a little less barrel time so the base beer isn’t swamped out. shigadeyo (3819) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 11, 2009

July 17-19, 2008: Barrel Aged Barbarlian has a deep, deep ruby brown color and is murkey. A dense, beuige crown sits on top and provides good lacing. The aroma has vanilla, oak, and hints of bourbon. I like the amount and depth of the caramelized maltiness and chewy carament in the flavor. This beer has a medium-full body and is smooth. Overall it is balanced and quite tasty.
Draught sample at Jackie-Os Pub and Brewery in Athens, Ohio during Ohio Brew Week 2008. Rating #3 for this beer.
Sample at the brewpub. Murky brown pour with a medium tan head. Aroma of oak, booze, tartness and brown sugar. Oaky and boozy flavor up front, followed by a bit of chocolate, caramel and a bit sour on the finish. Dogbrick (14300) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 9, 2009
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a hazy dark reddish-brown color with a medium thin beige head that recedes quickly. Thin rings of lacing. Rich malty aroma with notes of bourbon and fruit. Full body with flavors of bourbon and oak, malt, caramel and a touch of hops. The finish is bourbon and fruit with a lingering boozy aftertaste. Pretty solid overall.
