COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

375cl bottle enjoyed at home. Poured a dark Black colour with a non to long tasting mocha head. Leaving a Nice mocha oily ring on top. First notice is very sweet muscavo sugar, sweet molasses, roasted malts, toffee, Brown sugar, vanilla, fudge, sugary notes are overpowering the Bourbon. Getting some spicy nutmeg aswell. Some sweet Bourbon notes in the taste, oak, vanilla, slight bitter finish. Maple bark. Sticky mouthfeel. However i was expecting a little more Bourbon barrel here.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Dark chocolate nose. Palate is smooth and semi dry and mildly crisp. Dark chocolate follows the nose, rich and spicy. Chocolate liqueur. Fruity bourbon turning spicy and dry. Dry finish. Tasty but spicy, could do with some time.

So I traded a really big beer for this. Not sure it was an even trade, but I still really like this beer. Flavor is outstanding, just not enough body or depth. Molasses is sticky and the brown sugar is sweet. Guess I’m just expecting more from that bourbon barrel. With that said, I still REALLY like this beer.

375 ml bottle thanks to fiver29. Vintage 2014. Opaque pour in a snifter, very thin head. Aroma shows has lasting bourbon overtones with vanilla, some dark fruits, and light port wine. The flavor from the barrel is a huge improvement to the base stout. Long lasting warming bourbon over top charred malts, thick dark fruit (sweet plums, dates) oak and again with the port wine or Sherry notes. Really nice round mouthfeel with light warming after the sip.
