Jackie O’s take on the - now - ubiquitous imperial stout theme, aged on bourbon barrels for eight months. From a stylish 37.5 cl ’mini’ bomber - or rather: 12.7 fl. oz., so 37.55 cl to be precise, not the commonest way to bottle a beer in America. Pretty yellowish beige, lightly lacing, moussy head, dissolving into nothing in the middle instantly but holding strong on the edges with a ’coffee cream’-like effect, over a black beer with hazy ochre-ish mahogany edges, its true colour visible for only a few millimeters off the edge. Intense, seductive bouquet of hot chocolate sauce made with cognac, hazelnut paste, bourbon, toffee, wet leather, vanilla-like oak (and wet wood in general) reinforced by the bourbon, game stock, roasted chestnuts, shoe polish and fresh paint, molasses, old raisins, hints of amaretto, fresh bayleaf taken out of a beef stew after a long time of stewing, gingerbread, cinnamon, wet burnt toast, cappuccino, dried banana slices, liquorice, soaked black beans, dried prunes, walnut liqueur, old dry chocolate cake, soy sauce. Intense flavour, an onset of candied fig, dried banana and raisin sweetness immediately balanced by a very soft ’lateral’ sourish touch but, more than anything, by a very beefy umami flavour, a bit stewed mushroom- and beef stock cube-like, very leathery as well, with a softly carbonated, viscous and ’hefty’, very heavily oily mouthfeel; lingering ’black’ sugary sweetness. Alcohol ’stings’ are apparent from the start, fatiguing the tip of the tongue well before they should actually show up, but in any case the middle phase is a plunge into the depths of the dark malt underworld, albeit in a relatively ’friendly’ manner with more emphasis on sweetness than on roasted bitterness; thoroughly nutty, almost peanut butter- and hazelnut paste-like flavours are quickly drenched in a black chocolate bittersweetness with a sharper toasted bitter edge, eventually accentuated by the wryness of the bourbon, which comes to full glory at the back - yet keeps itself sweet and flattering, adding vanilla- and burnt caramel-like notes just as much as heating alcohol. Some tannic, agreeable woodiness in the end, clinging tightly to the root of the tongue as the alcohol heat flows overhead. A dash of peppery, tangy and very slightly herbal, almost ’moss green’ hop bitterness adds further balance against the initial black candi sugar sweetness, though it is, in all, still the sweetness that gets the last word, even if beautifully matched with roasted bitterness. Deep and complex, long-stretched, yet still ’praline’-like stout: no flavours here that I haven’t encountered before in similar American impies, but by itself more than exemplary, generous, rich and profound as any other classic BBA American stout - we’re very close to Bourbon County territory here. Delightful sipper and a beautiful creation by this sympathetic brewing company once again. Werckmeister (3227) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - JUL 13, 2017
0,375l from bottle bought at Biercab Shop. No obvious BB date. black color, very small coffee cooled head. smells of coconut, bourbon, light sweetness, marzipan, dried fruits, raisins. lovely smell. Full body, light carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes lightly sweet, coconut, bourbon, bitter chocolate, light coffee, light vanilla, bit nutty, dried fruits, raisins. finishes lightly sweet with notes of coconut, bourbon and dried fruits. very very nice one, great balance. just a tad boozy. I also prefer it colder because vanilla gets through too much for my liking when warm. definitely prefer the ba version, even though it gets a touch boozy. Nice BA changed positively this brew. Smooth, silky, medium bodied with nice milk chocolate accents. Strong bourbon notes - vanilla, coconut, light heavy sweet, ABV is extremely well hidden. Big brew. rami_pl (3659) - Warszawa, POLAND - JUL 10, 2017

Szału ni ma, stout gęsty, treściwy, ale anonimowy, nie urywa ani nie zdejmuje niczego, w dodatku butelka 2017 już w czerwcu wydaje się nieco zmęczona (soja)? KennethArd (579) - Odense, DENMARK - JUN 6, 2017
