This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Beerathon (1681) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 2, 2015
A depth of flavors going on here - moleasses, chocolate, bourbon, oak, booze, coffee. So malty, so complex, so strong. Dig it.

gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - OCT 9, 2015
2012 bottle - infected. Sweet liquorice nose, dark forest fruits. Medium, oily body, sourness immediately noticeable, taste is pure varnish. Disappointment.

Borup (15350) - Albertslund, DENMARK - SEP 30, 2015

furthur (1229) - Eagle River, Alaska, USA - SEP 21, 2015
Bottle, opaque, oily black beer, bubbly almond colored head dissapeared immediately. Aroma is molasses, bourbon, hugely vanilla, rootbeer, broiled dark fruit, sweet chocolate. Taste is vanilla, molasses, coffee, oak, figs, pecans, bourbon, toasted barley. This is so much better than I thought it would be. Not nearly as sweet, fairly roasty, and big flavors! Palate is rich and thick, carbonation subdued. It’s a little hot. Another year or two might really make this shine!

simont1 (631) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - SEP 13, 2015
Aroma of cola, wood, bourbon, tosca, burned caramel, light brown sugar. Lots of flavors, and very different from other bourbon barrel aged stouts. Solid vanilla taste with a licorice backbone, a bit nutty with spicy bourbon carrying it through. A bit thin.

Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - SEP 2, 2015
375ml bottle. Black colour. Manages a decent brown head for a few seconds. Lots bourbon and molasses in the aroma. The feel on the tongue is very good. Nice thick mouthfeel to it. Lots of chocolate and bourbon flavours. Spike of sweetness as it finishes. Solid imperial.
