22oz bottle, sampled at a share. 2010 date, 57/204. Hazy orange amber color. Thin off white head, some loose bits of lace. Drinking way better than expected, for a 5 year old IPA. This has turned out to be a great barley wine. Awesome toasty malt, mild spicy peppery character, nice mild bourbn. Surprised this hasn’t soured or nothing, it’s hardly even oxidized, really impressive. Josh, you did a great job cellaring this. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet, kind of dry, a nice pleasant bit of bourbon warmth. Nothing about it is harsh or out of balance though, really cool and interesting. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of soft, light carbonation, dry finish. Really interesting stuff, impressive how decent its drinking right now. Glad for the chance to try this. #37 for this beer.
Tasted on 12/26/11 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle shared by JR, big thanks. Pours super murky burnt orange with tons of chunky sediment, a thin white head, and leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is mostly caramel, toffee, and maple bourbon, with citrus peel and kids’ vitamin (old) hops. The flavor is much hoppier and bitter, with all of the bourbon, caramel, and maple notes taking a back seat. The body is full with a syrup texture, lively carbonation, and a long hoppy bitter and bourbon finish. Dogbrick (13789) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing bottle #138/204. The beer pours a hazy brownish-orange color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, bourbon and citrusy hops. Medium to full body with an oaky bourbon character and notes of malt, vanilla and herbal/piney hops. The finish is hoppy up front with an oaky and malty aftertaste. Pretty good beer overall.

22 oz. bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks, Blake! 2010 vintage, bottle 59/204. Pours a hazy gold color with a small off-white head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, oak, dried and somewhat tart fruits (melon and dried apricots), and sugar. Flavor of oak, caramel, apricot, bread, sugar, and vanilla. Some bourbon, but mostly get the barrel. A little funky, too. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, somewhat funky mouthfeel and dry finish. Unusual but worth trying for sure. Bottle 188/204 graciously shared by Sparky! Dark over-ripe tangerine pour with a small ivory head. Aroma shows some fusel alcohol, candied citrus, caramel, honey, and wood. Flavor of blood orange, oak, bourbon, and herbal qualities. The tang of the hops is noticeable in the finish but overall, an overly sweet beer. Syrupy mouthfeel with the alcohol present. Thanks Beace! This pours bright orange amber with a huge off white head - excellent. The aroma is a ton of bourbon with sweet notes, hops and malts both give this. The flavor starts slowly with a big note of bourbon and booze which settles slowly and nicely, which then allows the rise of citrus hops and malty notes. It is at least a year old so the malts overpower the hops. alexsdad06 (10817) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - JUL 24, 2011
22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head. The nose is sweet caramel, vanilla, mild bourbon, herbal hops with some wood. The flavor is sweet caramel, light bourbon and vanilla up front. The DIPA character shows more toward the finish with mild bitterness, herbal, resiny notes at the back. The barrel serves to smooth this out quite a bit. I can see where people don’t like this sort of beer, but I found it to be very drinkable. jcwattsrugger (12524) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - JUL 21, 2011
