Black beer with a thin brown slick for a head. Really complex vanilla maple bourbon barrel nose, with warming alcohol. Strong alcohol with tons of maple sugar, vanilla bean, buttery bourbon, and fruity raisin. Wow what a nice well balanced big beer. Dogbrick (14389) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 19, 2018
Sample at the brewpub during Jackie O’s 12th Anniversary Extravaganza on 01/05/2018. Brown-black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes gradually to a film. Patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of bourbon, vanilla, malt and chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky vanilla, bourbon, chocolate malt and sweet maple. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and maple aftertaste. Good beer all around. Schwarzbart (316) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 19, 2017
From Jackie O’s and aged for over a year. Pours a small, tan, creamy head. Color is black with a fair amount of debris falling to the bottom. Big black licorice qualities, bourbon, molasses, brown sugar, light nuttiness and only hints of vanilla. Just shy of a full bodied mouthfeel and a little bourbon heat in the finish. I was actually hoping for more distinguished maple syrup flavors. Not much different than standard really. Vanilla just smooths out sweetness a smidge.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2017 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Pours black color with a moderate frothy brown head that slowly diminished with good lacing. Heavy toasted dark chocolate, solid vanilla, wood and bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Heavy roasted malt bourbon vanilla sweet flavor with a medium to heavy bourbon sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout porter. markwise (5450) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - MAY 28, 2017
Bottle courtesy of my Ohio connection. Cheers! Pours a deep stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roast, sweet vanilla, oak, vanilla, maple syrup, and toffee. Flavor hits on all cylinders of sweetness- vanilla, bourbon, maple, caramel, toffee, and oak with bourbon. Light to medium in body and lingering vanilla, chocolate, and whiskey on the finish.

375 ml bottle shared with Tmoney99 and Chris R. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, vanilla, maple, bourbon, wood, chocolate, everything from the base plus an extra shot of vanilla, very solid. 50belair (3718) - Florida, USA - DEC 5, 2016
Bottle. Dark brown pour with a kaki head. Litter box bouquet. Thin with fake vanilla and artificial dark roasted malt notes. Almost assuredly infected. Pretty much terrible. ctipping (2299) - Florida, USA - DEC 5, 2016
375 mL bottle. Black body. Something very odd about the nose. Very nutty. Cola. Vanilla. Earthy like it’s got brett. Tastes nutty and earthy throughout. Vanilla. The flavor is bitter, oaky, with an old sock flavor. Ugh. A little boozy. Low carbonation. Something isn’t right here. koleminer20 (4261) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - NOV 30, 2016
From notes. Enjoyed this at Mickey’s 30th birthday bash on November 05. 375 mL bottle. The pour is a darker black, a little thin, with a lighter tan colored ring of head on it. There are a couple spots of lace as it disappears. The aroma is pretty good. There is a bitter malt and roast up front before the maple and bourbon come rolling in. The vanilla gets heavier as it warms up, and I’m actually liking this one. The flavor is just as good. There is a nice maple, bourbon, and a heavy vanilla to it. The alcohol is a little heavy on the finish, but it’s well balanced. The mouth feel is decently thick, but undercarbonated, with a nice lingeringly maple sweet, bourbon hot, and vanilla finish. I like this beer a lot. phaleslu (10957) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 16, 2016
375 ml bottle via trade. Thanks again, Steve! Pours a cloudy deep, dark brown with a small bubbly tan head that settles into a lasting bubbly ring around the edge. Really big bourbon barrel character in this, much more pronounced than I noticed in the non-vanilla version. Sure, there’s vanilla in here, but not much more than in the regular. I was worried about amping up the sweetness too much, but not so. This is probably the least sweet of the three versions so far. Charred oak and bourbon, cocoa, brown sugar, fudge, maple, caramel, and roast. Light-medium bodied - again, thinner than the others, as if it was aged longer than the non-vanilla one - with modest carbonation and a warming mouthfeel balanced by sweetness. I think this is my favorite of the bunch. I’d be curious to try it again a few months out to see how it’s settled.
