COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. After a month of conditioning in stainless steel, the beer was transferred into bourbon barrels. For 8 months, Dark Apparition waited patiently in oak barrels until the time was right to spring forth with its ghostly gusto. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Thanks Joel aka Boatsandhoes on talkbeer. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a dark brown color with a quickly dissipating slim fingered head that didn’t leave any lacing. The smell started off a major sweet bourbon boozy dry woody aroma over top of sweet brown sugar and a light vanilla. The flavor copies the aroma nicely, taking on the dryness to come across in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a good sipping quality about it. Carbonation sits fairly low key. Still, the dryness hits at the mouthfeel. Overall, I liked the other Dark Apparition with the vanilla and coffee way more. This was good, but there’s almost that cloyingly sweetness trying to make a slight presence in the feel.

Refrigerated 12.7 oz. brown bottle from JStax poured into a snifter. Coal black with small beige head. Aroma is nice light bourbon and chocolate, medium/thick body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is bourbon, chocolate, molasses, some oak, some heat, hints of booze, and balancing hops. This is the best Jackie O’s beer I have had, thanks JStax.

375ml bottle pours brown black with small head. Nose has lots of licorice, dark fruit, nutty vanilla, dry baker’s chocolate. Taste has bitter roasty baker’s chocolate, some vanilla, licorice, a touch thinner in the body. Finishes with moderate sweetness, bitter roast, coffee, cream, nutty, light bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2016 vintage. Served in a Jackie O’s snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. I like the aroma a lot, the brew smells like brown sugar, molasses, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and some coffee. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also some burnt/charred malt and woody flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew a lot and I definitely recommend this, but then pretty much everything from Jackie O’s is really good!

375 ml bottle (11.5% abv). Vertical tasting with Jackie O’s Vanilla & Coffee Bean Dark Apparition.
Pours jet black color with a small beige head. Quite distinct bourbon aroma, vanilla, cocoa, dark chocolate and dark malts. Sweet bourbon and brown sugar on the flavor, caramel, syrup notes and dark chocolate. Aroma is excellent, flavor is nice. Slightly better compared to Vanilla & Coffee Bean version.

37,5 cl bottle vintage 2014 @ home
Aroma has soy sauce and some sweet bourbon notes. Flavour has strong and sweet bourbon notes and whisky tones. Rather sweet and sticky, would be difficult to finish a whole bottle. Reminds me a bit of bourbon county stout.

Bottle shared by someone from the Mikkeller Aarhus crew - Thanks! Pours black with no head. Aroma of sweet bourbon, wood, toffee, dark thick malty notes, vanilla, chocolate and dark fruits. The taste has some roasted malts, chocolate, toffee, weak bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits leading to a slight savory and sweet end. Awesome stuff!

2016 edition, pour to oversized snifter on a blustery frosty eve. Pitch black with quickly fizzling toffee head that dissipates to nothing. Some sprightly bubbles sparkle to the surface long after the pour. Hefty nose of toffee, milk chocolate, burnt caramelized sugar, mocha, ash, oak, alcohol, and molasses. Creamy body of vanilla, date, milk, mocha, sweet chocolate, oaky and alcohol on the way down. Carbonation is a bit sprightly and takes away from the creamy, yet fairly medium body (for an RIS). All the flavors are there though. Sip slow, and cozy up.
