COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oil of Aphrodite is an American double stout brewed with locally harvested black walnuts and Belgian candied syrup. English, German, American, and Belgian malts are accompanied by Pacific Northwest hops, creating a sweet and rich springboard for deep nuttiness.

This stout was aged in bourbon barrels for 8 to 12 months, creating an amazing brew worthy of goddesses and gods alike. A considerable amount of carefully roasted coffee beans were added to awaken one’s senses. A beer passionately created to transcend your glass and provide a truly memorable experience.

Tasted from a capped 650mL bomber bottle at the late night tasting after the Grand Tasting at RBWG Asheville, big thanks to DrSilverworm for sharing. Pours hazy, opaque dark brown with just thin tan lace. The nose is lots of coffee and vanilla, molasses, dark chocolate brownie, milk chocolate, and maple bourbon. The flavor is pretty coffee forward, nicely balanced with coffee and dark chocolate bitterness, along with the sweeter vanilla, caramel, and maple bourbon. The body is full with light carbonation and a long caramel bourbon and coffee finish. Excellent!

Thanks to Zach for this treat! Plaisante.

Shared at an Ann Arbor get together at Jeff’s on July 20. 375 mL bottle. The pour is a lighter brown/black color with a thicker tan head that falls down quickly, leaving a couple spots of lace behind. The aroma is pretty good. There is a lot of fresh coffee. There is almost a bit of green pepper to it, so I think it needs a little time. There is a good nuttiness and a lot of roasted malt. The bourbon is a little hot, but it’s pretty balanced. The flavor is a little more balanced. The coffee is still very green. There is a nice roasted malt and a good chocolate before the bourbon and charred oak kick in. The mouth feel is a little thin, but well carbonated. The aftertaste is pretty good. There is a lot of booze on the back end that I’m not crazy about.

Sample from bottle #131/230 at the "Jackie O’s Staff Bottle Tasting Part 2" on 12/18/2015. The beer pours a brown-black color with a medium foamy tan head that diminishes steadily to a thin outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and bourbon. Full-bodied with an oaky bourbon and roasty malt and coffee character. The finish is bourbon-infused mocha. Very good all around.

Bottle shared during RBWG 2014 Asheville - Late Nite session. Cheers! Pours oily black-brown with a creamy tan head. Rich, thick and chewy, with lots of hearty coffee character, dark chocolate, modest earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming to hot on the finish, with more rich chocolate, oily coffee, scorched earth. Really solid overall. Quite dense and deep. Excellent.

Bottle: Chouffe glass: Bottle #7/230: Almost completely black with a small brown head. Chalky aroma with loads of coffee, praline and chocolate. Delicious! When one snifs on and on, it reveals more dark complex notes. Very nice! Flavour is rich of coffee, coffee roast, bitters, spice, chocolate, praline, some wood and bourbon and a rum/alcohol touch. Again, going further it’s becoming more complex. Delicious stuff! Aftertaste is a good mix of cofee roast, bitters, chalk, chocolate, bourbon, nuts, earthy and rum tones. Low carbo, creamy silky mouthfeel, full bodied. Awesome stuff! Wonderfull! Thanks to trader X for this!

Tap @CBC15. Black with small brown film. Aroma has wood, vanilla and coffee. Similar flavor plus some licorice and clear, distinct bitterness. Boozy, rough finish.
