375 bottle from a trade. A lot of fruitiness and banana in the nose. Slightly hazy deep orange in color. A light vanilla and marshmallow as it warms. Taste is immediately boozy with a strong vanilla flavor and some of the paw paw comes through. Alcohol stays through the flavor and into the finish. King of reminds me of bananas foster. Or a banana frozen drink. Not bad.

Bottle... Mostly clear amber pour with a small, fleeting, white head. The aroma is a mishmash of stone fruits, plain Greek yogurt and a splash of oaken alcohol. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. The flavor is an unholy collection of fruity, fecal, lactic and acidic components. This is just really bad. Living in West Virginia for 23 years, I’m very familiar with Paw Paw fruit and Paw Paw wine. This beer is not at all good and is a terrible representation of a pretty cool and unique fruit. That said, someone put effort and love into this beer, so my apologies for being brash. Hopefully, the next batch brings about a better result.

Bottle thanks to Jstax ! Pours a murky rusty orange sienna color with a finger of gaseous eggshell foam. Lots of bourbon and composted fruit on the nose whith hints of berry, rotten plum, paw paw, bourbon soaked raisins and passionfruit. Palate follows with so much boozy fruit punch its a bit overbearing but with time and the right cheese it made for a pleasant sipper.

Bottle - Well. You can pretty much tell this was going to be ok at best from the description. Gold pour with white head and no retention. Nose is primarily booze along with the taste. Didn’t expect the barrel treatment to blend well with this style and it really didn’t. However, it isn’t bad its just not anything worth seeking,

Not a fan of what I'm assuming is the paw paw fruit. But I wouldn't say it's a bad beer

Sample at the brewpub during the 9th Anniversary Extravaganza on 12/05/14. The beer is a clear dark amber-orange color with a medium thin white head that recedes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is oaky with fruit and wheat notes. Full-bodied with a predominantly oak and paw paw flavor, with some herbal wheat in the background. The finish is boozy with a fruity aftertaste. Above average overall.

Draft served in a sampler glass on the Public House side at Jackie-O’s. Pours a hazy dull orange-gold with no head. Notes of vanilla, caramel, honey, mixed tropical fruits (paw paw, I guess), melon, wheat, oak, and some sugars. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty, smooth mouthfeel. I didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did, and clearly I had a more positive reaction to it than other raters.

JStax (7392) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - DEC 5, 2014
Draft pour. Pours a clear darker brown with a beige head of foam. The aroma is big whiskey, not much else. Taste is over the top whiskey. Medium body and low carbonation. Not my cup of tea.

5oz on tap at Jackie-O’s. Kind of a murky amber brown color. Minimal head, faded to nothing by the time I got to it. Wow. Up front, a very big bourbon aroma.... Like someone put a shot of bourbon into my Paw Paw Wheat. Flavor is a little rude, doesn’t blend extremely well with the base from my first impression. I start to adjust to it by the 4th or 5th sip though. Actually becomes really nice now that I’m sipping on it... The bourbon flavor is pretty tasty, lots of toasted oak, mild vanilla, which seems to work well with the Paw Paw Wheat base. Moderate sweet taste, kind of drying finish, a definite heat on the back end with small sips but it’s not harsh. Some pear, mild white grape aromas. Enjoyable, but it honestly feels like I’m sipping on a half/half whiskey/pawpaw beverage right now. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp carbonation. Lightly slick. Long bourbon-dominated aftertaste with a touch of pale pawpaw fruitiness. An enjoyable bourbon delivery vehicle to sip on.
