Bourbon Berry Grove is a burly wheat wine style ale. Brewed with copious amounts of local honey, carefully selected specialty malts, and pacific northwest hops. The aging of this brew in bourbon barrels with cherries and blueberries elevates the rich caramel/honey character to luscious heights. Poured from a 22 oz bottle, 2011 vintage. Aroma is rich and malty with quite a bit of caramel and toffee. Some medium bourbon and oak notes with quite a bit of dark fruit, mostly cherry but also blueberry. Medium alcohol spice. Pours a cloudy, burnt amber with a large, thin, tan head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Faint lacing and medium legs. Flavor is moderately tart with some berry skin tannins. Moderate malt notes of caramel and toffee. Moderate bitterness that is somewhat harsh and conflicts with the medium light fruit notes that remain in the beer. Some medium light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, this may have been better fresh, but it aged very poorly. The fruit notes conflict with the alcohol heat and bitterness. The aroma works much better than the flavor.

22oz bottle pours a lightly hazy amber with some spitty, white head. Nose has a lot of booze, some guava, a ton of pomegranate, wood, mild, mild toothpaste. Flavor has a ton of pomegranate as well, vanilla, cherry, mild berry, malt, red grape. Full bodied, oily finish.

Bottle share. Hazy orange/copper with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavy on the oak and bourbon with subtler notes of vanilla and cherries. Flavor is complex but the oak is fighting at the front with berries and booze behind it. Good, but very boozy and unbalanced.

Bottle shared by madtowndmb1...thanks Kyle! - Wanted to try this beer for a long time, but after drinking it I think it would have been better a couple years ago. Pours pinkish amber with a thin off-white head. Nose is light bready malt, a touch of berry, very little tartness and some caramel sweetness. Taste is caramel and sweet berry, real limp and bready, with a bit of sourness. Thin and well-carbonated. This whole beer just tasted a bit flat.

22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2010 vintage, bottle 133/142. Mostly clear orange red amber color. Minimal off-white / khaki head. Dots of lace. Big berry, lightly hoppy aroma. Light tart, moderate bitter, light alcohol. Sort of cough syrupy. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter, crisp carbonation. Lightly dry finish, with the alcohol. Some warmth, but no burn or bite. Good berry barrel-aged beer. Gets better as I go. Good stuff. Nice dark fruit and barrel character.

Bomber to taster (Batch 1; shred by alexsdad06). Looks good; a semi-transparent caramel with thin off-white lacing. Smells sweet and malty with a bit of fruit and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with more of a fruit presence. Nice on the palate. Good beer.

220z bottle pours with a murky mahogany body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a pleasing tart note mixing with sticky molasses, sweet malts, caramel malts, some prunes and some sweet bourbon soaked raisins. At the end of the draw I get a decent little hit of boozy heat. The taste is rich, deep, sweet and tart and fruity. Yum. I get tarter berry notes moving into sweet thick malts and molasses covering over sweet mushed up prunes and raisins. I get into modest and smooth sweet bourbon notes into the finish. Yummers!

Bottle pour shared from alexsdad06. Hazy brown color. Nose sweet malt, bourbon and dark cherry. Taste of the same, compounded by tannin from the wood, vanilla, and bourbon. Very interesting complex flavor profile.

22 oz bottle acquired in trade. Pours a richer brownish pour, mellow haze, with some ruby glow. Some richer bright brownish head is thick, mellow lace, some frothy glow and lace. Aromas are richer brett, some funk and fart. Gentle toffee, gentle berry, bourbon and vanilla. Richer funk, a kiss of tartness. Initial is medium bodied, some caramel and toast, gentle, with mellow berry. Firm rich bretty funk, dryness, and some tartness. Mellow oak grows, some funk, gentle vanilla. Touches of cocoa, vanilla, and oak. Gentle bourbon, touches of berryskin, and oak. Backend and finish is dry, touches of carmelization and malt girth, some vanilla, spirit, berry. Funk and wild yeast has taken this beer over, not for the better it seems. Meh. Ok, but loses what I think it wanted to be.
