Had this at the August 27th bottle release. 4 oz from a tasting snifter.
4.0 A: Deeply hazed amber brown color. Came without a head.
4.5 S: Lots of caramel and tons of vanilla. Brandy is all over this. A touch of butter. Quite nice.
4.5 T: Again lots of caramel with vanilla out the wazoo. Brandy is plentiful again. A touch of butter again.
4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Nice creaminess.
4.0 D: Very tasty beer. All this time, brewers have been putting imperial stouts in brandy barrels (which I never understood), but have been leaving their ambers to fend for themselves. Amber + brandy barrel = where it’s at.

Thanks to GatorGuy92 for the share. Pours a hazy brown with a white head. Nose is brandy, caramel, some raisins, and a hint of booze. Flavor is similar with the brandy and the barrel fighting at first and making friends at the end. The brandy comes forward in an interesting way to play with the malt and caramel of the amber. Interesting sipper with a hint of booze. JaBier (8027) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Sample at the brewpub on 8/26/11. Red pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of caramel, booze, oak and vanilla. Caramelly malt flavor with vanilla, brandy and apple with a bit of tartness in the finish. ucusty (2691) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - SEP 3, 2011
Muddy brown pour with a thin beige head. Aroma is nutty but overall the brandy dominates and that’s fine. Toffee, tobacco, leather, brandy and nuts.

Tap sample. Poured dark hazy brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex earthy hop and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy same hop and woody bittersweet flavor with a solid bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer. jtclockwork (16701) - , New Jersey, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Bottle thanks to jrallen34. Pours muddy brown with tan head. Nose/taste of brandy barrel, caramel, toffee, biscuit and sweet malt. Lots of warming alcohol in the finish. Medium body. egajdzis (6624) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Hazy red brown color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of brandy, roast, cherries, caramel malts, smoke, vanilla, wood, and alcohol. Taste of roast, charred barrel, brandy, wood, some vanilla, sweeter dark cherry, tobacco, and sharp alcohol in the finish. thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - SEP 2, 2012
(22oz bomber during RBWG) cloudy amber with a few bubbles Nose of caramel, raspberry, vanilla, and manure. Taste of berry, caramel, vanilla, alcohol, medium body, nice beer. hamilton23 (619) - Alpine, California, USA - DEC 16, 2012
Poured from 22 oz. poured murky brown with just a bit of beige head. Aroma is fairly nonexistent with hints of dried fruit. Taste follows the nose unfortunately. Not much here. A little fig and caramel.
