COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The character pictured on the front of this label is Jonathan Holmberg. Jonathan has been a bartender at what now is Jackie O’s for the past 15 years. In 2004 he helped me get my foot in the door and has been a dear friend ever since. Jonathan is a true eccentric and this beer is nothing short of that. Our robust porter was placed into Cabernet barrels eight months ago. Wild yeast and Lactobacillus were added to the barrels to give the beer a tart edge and some very rustic and fruity qualities. Sixty pounds of tart cherries were added to each barrel to take this beer in a unique direction. Notes of cherries, oak, chocolate, wine, and leather all find a special spot in this brew. Cab Cherry Man is a beer that can stand up to the antiquing, joking, halloween-loving, and sweet personality that is Jonathan’s. Cheers, buddy! -Brad Clark, brewer

Note: Cab Cherry Man may be labeled as Cherry Man on the draft menu, but all recent batches have been barrel aged and ratings belong here.

Shared at a tasting hosted by Steve Hackley on September 25. Thanks Steve! This was poured from a 22 oz bottle. The pour is a light black with heavy brown influences coming through and a thinner light tan head that offers a couple wispy legs of lace as it recedes. The aroma is something else. There is a strong cherry up front. It’s a combination of sweet and sour cherries. I like it. There is a decent funkiness that’s going on behind them. I’ve heard people refer that this smells like a sour brown, and they’re kind of right. There is a wet oak present, and some light cocoa and roast. It is not quite as good as a sour stout, but it’s somewhere in the middle. The flavor is a bit different. There is a nice tartness up front, followed up by a pretty hefty roasty chocolate malt. There is a little barrel in it, but for the most part, the Cabernet seems to vanish. This is pretty welcome with some of the wine-barreled beers I’ve had. The mouth feel is decently thick with a nice carbonation and a lingeringly boozy cherry finish. The alcohol does poke through on the back end. This thing is pretty good for a beer I’ve never even heard of.

Large shared bottle poured red-brown. Quite dark with a bubbly weak head. The aroma has a nice cherry note but the cherry component is much diminished in tasting. Light-moderate tartness with a light bitterness in the finish. Slightly boozy.

thanks for trade with Tmoney99 --- Cloudy dark ruby with no head, no lace. Looks like wine. Taste is tart cherry wine with some wood and leather (like the bottle says). No change through the palate and finish. 2012 bottle, so it has aged a bit. Interesting, but you’ll have to prove to me that it is a beer and not a dry wine.

2011 Vintage bottle 360/384. Aroma has medium chocolate, dark caramel and toffee with faint roast. Light acidity with moderate cherry, berry and cassis. Light alcohol spice. Pours brown with a thin tan head that quickly recedes to the edges and disappears. Light lacing and a sheet of alcohol. Flavor has a moderate cherry character with quite a bit of berry and cassis. Some light oak notes with medium chocolate, dark caramel and toasted bread notes. Light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty nice beer that has held up really well. A high alcohol version of a flemish style red with a bit more cherry character. A nice beer.
