I would prefer to smell this beer rather than drink it. Extremely complex aroma of wine, spice, vanilla, caramel and brett funk. Flavor is marred by a wickedly bitter, dry bretty finish. Maybe I just popped this at a bad time.
Bottle shared at Todd’s thanks to Charlie. 2010 bottle. Caramel. Light body. Toffee and booze. Slight sour wine sherry. b3shine (8875) - Indiana, USA - NOV 2, 2013
Bomber to taster (shared by Tmoney99). Looks good; a cloudy amberish brown with light beige lacing. Smells sweet and malty. Tastes like it smells with a solid, dry mouthfeel. Enjoyable. shigadeyo (3739) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 2, 2013

6/07/2011: Jackie O’s Captain Barley Heart (Old Ale with Brett)... Aroma: Blackberry, elderberry, mullbeery; nice acidic quality; I’m really intrigued as to what this beer will taste like... Appearance: Dull brown color. Flavor: Really complex blend of chocolate, char, deep caramel, molasses, port, vanilla, and red wine; tart, dry, lingering finish. Palate: Medium weight; good body. Overall: Quite tasty!

Unclear dark brown amber colour with a small, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, dark fruit, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, a is bit odd - wird ! Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic.
Draft at Jackie O-s. Pours a hazy amber color with a small beige head. The aroma has caramel, dates, earthy notes and brett. The flavor has sweet caramel, dates, earthy notes, toffee, and Brett. Fairly dry and solid drinking.
The only bottle I opened was a bit under carbonated, but still good.

(22oz bottle) Pours a murky orange-brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, chocolate, caramel, and graham cracker. Flavor of caramel, toffee, grape, light brett, wood, and raisins. Damico (3147) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 2, 2012
Pours dark candy apple amber with a tan head. Aroma brings sweet smooth malts and a bit of fruitiness, darker. Flavor brings raisins, sweet malts, and a bit of yeast from the Brett with a bit of a resin malty ending. Delicious for my palate, old ales are usually a bit overpowering. anders37 (26657) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUL 1, 2012
Bottle @ Papsø. 2010 bottle 30/216. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty spicy caramel dark fruit flavor with weak woody hints. Has a sweetish malty caramel bitter woody finish. wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - JUN 22, 2012
nearly flat pour, aroma is very faint, taste is muddled and not very interesting, the palate is watery and thin. meh. on to 4thD!
