A Flanders style brown ale. We took Chomo-lung-ma (our organic honey nut brown) and aged it in a second generation Woodford Reserve barrel (subtle bourbon flavor, notes of American oak) for four months with 30lbs of tart cherries and a specially blended culture of wild yeast and beer souring bacteria. Chunga’s Old Bruin exhibits and aroma of sweet cherries and faint chocolate/ roasted malt complemented by a faint oak bouquet. The flavor has a pronounced sour character with the caramel, chocolate, and roasted malt finish.

Bottle thanks to Gibson. Pours a dark amber with no head. The aroma is strong oak, funk, dark fruit. Thin body, oak, tobacco, leather, light tartness, funky, good.

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a glass. Dark brown with very small off white head. Aroma is sour cherries, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is rich tart cherries.

thanks to Tmoney99 for the trade. Opaque dark brown, thin tan rim head, no lace. Very still. Aroma of sour cherry and oak. Taste is light malt with tart cherry and wood barrel. All moves without a hitch through to a finish that exhibits no change. There needs to be something - an extra shot of sour, light hops, carbonation, something to seal it with an edge. It doesn’t quite work for me, which makes me wonder if a year old bottle might have lost some life.

Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours dark cola brown with a thin tan head that leaves very thin lace. The nose is caramel, maple, tart cherry, and super dry, funky brett. The flavor is more tart than expected, lightly bitter and sour with a hint of chocolate malt. The body is light with lively carbonation and a long sour and bitter finish.

Tap at the brewery. Pours clear brown with ruby highlights and a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is acetic cherries, toast and cookie malt, oak, vinous notes, earthy hops and spices. Flavor is tart and acidic cherries, figs, light malt, hops and bitterness, oak, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Draft at the source. Briwn color, bright beige head. Aroma of sourdough brown bread. Taste is tart cherry, vinous summer fruit. Nice.
