The flavor is dark roasted malt, rich vanilla, bourbon, wood, dark chocolate, coffee with dark fruits. The finish is dry with some black coffee bitterness and a slight earthy character. Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours nearly black dark brown with no head but a few brown bubbles. The nose is malted milk, dark chocolate syrup, plenty of coffee, but this one is really dominated by pure vanilla bean. The flavor is sweet with all of the coffee, dark chocolate syrup, and vanilla bean from the nose with an added marshmallow note. 12 ounce bottle, got this from Brad on a trip to Jackie O’s quite a while ago, thanks! I’d guess this is a 2011/2012 vintage? It’s been in the fridge for a while, might as well drink it tonight! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Aroma is great, the brew smells like milk and bittersweet chocolate, caramel, vanilla and some dark fruit. It tastes like roasted malt, milk and bittersweet chocolate, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit (cherries) and some coffee. It’s a mostly sweet tasting brew, very nice. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. I liked this a lot, it certainly aged well! 6/15/2011: Jackie O’s Dark Apparition Nano Beans (Vanilla Bean Dark Apparition)... Aroma: Intense Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, WOW! Appearance: Black, opaque, intriguing... Flavor: Vanilla all over with a sugary caramel quality finished with some chocolate and and really nice Bourbon quality that imparts a delicious oaky, vanilla, cherry quality; Palate: Medium-full; calm, smooth, milky texture. Overall: Really fine beer; delicious!

This one poured a coffee brown color with a very small beige head. Aroma was lots of stale coffee, burnt dark chocolate, and light Bourbon. Flavor was a great blessed.d between blatale coffee and light vanilla gently drizzled in Bourbon. Really nice stuff.

12 oz. bottle from alexsdad06- thanks again, Brad! Pours a deep brown color with small bubbles on one edge. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, vanilla- very sweet but not oppressively so. Flavor of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and some dark fruits (dates, plums). Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth, sweet mouthfeel. Opaque dark brown - black beer. Nose of dark chocolate. Fairly neutral palate. Rich dark chocolate, almost milk chocolate with vanilla presence. A tart bourbon edge. Finishes slightly spicy. Dry finish. A lively stout that entertains.

The look: Black body topped by a persistent small tan head
In long: Nose is roasted, some vanilla (but less than expected) and some rubbing alcohol. In mouth the beer feels a lot less boozy, actually the alcohol is pretty well hidden. Highly roasted malts, some vanilla beans, light black coffee notes, come oily raisin bread, some bourbon notes. Good barrels presence but not overwhelming. Roastiness covers most of the sweetness. Carbonation was a bit lacking but it wasn’t really a problem with a sipper dessert beer like this one. I usually find many Jackie-Os because are trying too much and going over-the-top throwing too much stuff at you, but I found this big beer surprisingly drinkable and pleasantly restrained. Very good. When opening a bottle from Jackie-O I never know if I’ll be as disappointed as when I find a french fry in my cup of onion rings or as happy as when I find an onion ring in my cup of French fries… and that right there says a lot about my exciting life.
Pours pure dark black in color with a solid sandy head. The aroma is my favorite, sweet vanilla booze and a bit of coffee in the background. The flavor brings creamy malts with vanilla and boozy notes. Ends with a bit of sweet and spicy booze. Huhzubendah (3705) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 4, 2012

A: This brew appears black, with 1/4" of beige head that leaves some good lacing in its wake.
S: The aroma is grand, with scents of alcohol, coffee, oak.
T: The beer tastes bold, with a pronounced bourbon presence. Flavors include vanilla, dark molasses, maple syrup, and coffee. The coffee could be brought to the forefront a bit more, as it seems somewhat overrun by booze. The muted coffee presence notwithstanding, this was a tasty and enjoyable beer.
M: Medium body, with moderately low carbonation.
D: I certainly enjoyed this beer. As it was sweet and strong (alcohol) tasting, a few ounces of this was plenty.
