4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours nearly black dark brown with no head but a few brown bubbles. The nose is tart cherry with dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, overall very vinous. The flavor is quite vinous, really dominated by the cherry with both milk and dark chocolate, and some bitter coffee. The body is full with average carbonation and a long dark chocolate and vinous cherry finish.
12 oz. bottle picked up when released from notes. Pours dark brown to black with very little in the way of a head. The aroma has hints of the dark roasted malts, dark chocolate and other things that make Dark Apparition a great beer, but adds some black cherry and cherry skins which adds a cherry wine character. Flavor shows some roasted malts, dark chocolate, mild bourbon with some tart cherry that provides a cherry wine/vinous character. Carbonation was light. Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours midnight black with no head. The nose furnishes maple syrup, dried plum and a heaping helping of Door County-like tart cherries. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The flavor is a eloquently-woven ribbon of chocolate, fudge and sour cherries. Finishes tart and dark-chocolaty. Kudos to darkguardian for sharing this world class bottle of beer! Tmoney99 (14769) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 7, 2012
Bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown color with a minimal frothy brown head that lasted with fair lacing good legs. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, dark cherry and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy sweet dark chocolate malt and dark cherry flavor with a medium to heavy sweet dark fruit and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is another solid fruit beer.

Dark App put into a 7 gallon bourbon barrel with cherries added. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tasting glass.
3.5 A: Black color. Couldn’t muster much of a head.
3.5 S: This is the only nano at this release without a hint of diacetyl. Smells like regular Dark App with a light leathery bourbon component. Unfortunately, the cherry doesn’t fit into the mix well. A light tartness isn’t a welcomed newcomer.
3.5 T: Again, this is Dark App with light bourbon and some tart cherry. Pleasantly chocolatety, supple roast, light coffee. Good here, but the cherry distracts from all the good stuff.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation with a light creaminess.
3.5 D: No improvement over the regular, but interesting a worth a try.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Appearance is black with a thin head of tan foam that quickly dissipates. Aroma is slightly tart cherries with a slightly boozy chocolate note. Taste is tart cherries, chocolate, coffee, bourbon. Tart finish. Chewy mouthfeel. One of the few cherry beers I was actually able to get into. That doesn’t happen often.
