3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours nearly black dark brown with no head but a few brown bubbles. The nose is super fruity with dark chocolate syrup, lots of dark roasted coffee, but it is really dominated by the fruity aroma (I assume from the currant). The flavor is super intense currant, which comes through a touch under ripe and sour, with plenty of dark chocolate syrup and roasted coffee. The body is full with light carbonation and a long currant and dark chocolate syrup finish.
Dark brown pour. Weird beer. Raisins, coffee, odd yeast strain, cherry notes all fight and leave this beer kind of messy...meh. deyholla (11759) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Bottle shared by Kyle, thanks! Pours near black with no head whatsoever. Aroma has a combination of dark red fruit and coffee backed by a bit of roasted malts. Flavor starts with smooth roasted malts and coffee but finished with a strong tart currant note. alexsdad06 (10485) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - SEP 30, 2012
12 oz. bottle. Pours the usual dark brown to black with very little head. The aroma has a hint of the base dark app, but includes coffee, mildly sour dark fruits and wood. The flavor is coffee, dark fruits with a mild sour quality. Wood and hints of dark chocolate. jcartamdg (3470) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 23, 2012
Pours dark black with no head. Aroma of coffee. Taste is sour with coffee and berries. Very different, very interesting. Not my favorite but nice to try

12oz bottle. Pours a typical stout brown with a light tan head. Nose is some roasted malts, some bitter coffee, some tart fruit, and some currants. Flavor is similar- I get the roasted malts from the stout, a hint of chocolate, a splash of currants, and some tartness with hits of wood. This one was interesting and worked for a bit, but the currant flavor got a bit old. Medium in body and not bad overall. Rustyham (1836) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2012
Strong aroma of hot pepper. Color is deep dark brown, flat. Very sour brakes, blue berry. Shift coffee. Palate is long lasting, jaw clenching. hopscotch (11161) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 17, 2012
Bottle… Pours still and sits dark brown in my glass. The bouquet wafts black currants, coffee, dried plum and sour berries. Medium to full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor presents coffee, black currants and plenty of acidity. Finishes tart with a bittersweet, acrid kiss of espresso. Bottle courtesy of darkguardian! Bottle. Poured a dark reddish brown color with a minimal frothy brown head that lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, dark coffee and alcohol burn aroma. Medium to heavy sweet dark chocolate malt and dark coffee flavor with a medium to heavy sweet dark chocolate and alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a very good beer.

I could be wrong, but I think Brad said this is Dark App with currants that was put into a 7 gallon bourbon barrel that previously housed a coffee DA Nano. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tasting glass.
3.5 A: Black color. Couldn’t get much of a head going.
3.0 S: Smells more like coffee than currant, but currants exist nonetheless. Light leathery bourbon. Supple roast. Light chocolate. The Dark App in this isn’t as powerful or complex as it should be.
2.5 T: Sourish tanginess from either the currants or the bourbon. I’d put money on it being the bourbon. Light coffee. Weak leathery bourbon. Good amount of astringency. Again, the Dark App seems muted behind all this trouble.
2.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking all creaminess.
2.0 D: Disappointing. This should be a damn good combo, but the execution didn’t work out.
