Bottle. Pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is strong oxidation and infection of sour fruit. Thin mouth, nutty, sour, dark fruit, hopefully get to try a non infected bottle down the road. cubs (10635) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - NOV 14, 2014
Bottle @ home, via the rotbox. Thanks to alexsdad for sending! Pours a black appearance with a lasting dark brown head. Possible infection. There’s some blackberry, grape and dark fruit notes in the nose. Some tannins, cinnamon, and a little bit of roast in the aroma as well. Twangy flavor. Some roast along with raisin, burnt sugar, and chocolate in the flavor. Moderate high sweetness. Dull bitterness. A little boozy. Ok but a little gooey. Bottle. Thanks to Peter or Worm. Can’t recall. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head that dies quickly. Aroma is weird. Taste is citrus and tart. Damn. Infected. Thin. Fudge. rondphoto (4448) - Lakeside Park, Kentucky, USA - SEP 22, 2014
thanks to Tmoney99 for sharing this at Ei8ht Ball --- Opaque dark brown/black with a brown rim head, lace that slides back in. Taste is smooth, but chewy, full-bodied roasted caramel malt with a little dark fruit and rum. All moves neatly through the palate to a slightly bitter finish that includes alcohol warmth deep in the throat. A huge beer, nicely conceived, good for sipping late in the night. 22oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. 2011 vintage, bottle 211 of 216. Very dark brown, red color. Nice thin lighter brown bubbly head. Good color.Dots of lace. Lightly tart, vinous smells in the nose. Light tart, lightly spicy in the flavor. Moderate bitter. Light alcohol warmth. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of creamy, lighter carbonation. Sort of a chewier texture. More dry finish. Dark fruit, light spice, some dark chocolate, moderate to bigger roast, some tannic character to the aroma. Very complex, tasty aroma to this, but it’s lightly over-tannic, hint of tartness to it. Overall, very interesting, enjoyable, tasty variant of Dark App. Excited to try a fresh vintage at the upcoming 8th Anniversary party.

Bomber to taster (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a dark and fairly opaque cola with tan lacing. Smells sweet with notes of rum and dark malt. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Good, not great. alexsdad06 (10430) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - AUG 1, 2013
Bottle shared with the group (2012, notes). Pours dark brown/black in color with a thin beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, light rum notes, butterscotch and dark fruit. The flavor is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, light coffee, rum with dark fruits. The finish is dry with some black coffee bitterness and a slight earthy character. I’ve heard this has issues recently, but fresh this was good. TheHOFF43 (2052) - Robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA - APR 14, 2013
Bottle. Pours black. Tart aroma, no rum on the nose. This has to.be.infected, more sour than stout. reggiedunlop (3725) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 15, 2013
2011 bottle...Pours pitch black with a medium mocha head...looks thick! Aroma has some wood and deep roastiness..cocoa...hints of coffee and rum. flavor is sour and roasty...odd stringent note...definitely some infection. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is soury/roasty. Not the first soured Jackie O’s stout ive had... stumpyiliz (217) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 27, 2012
Amazingly black used motor oil pour with a fast disippating red cedar wood head. The initial smell is full of cherries and plums. The rum comes through at the end of the breath. Initial taste is tart with dancing favors of rum smoked malts and cranberry into raspberry. The finish is very tannic on the sides of the tongue. Rum comes through after the tannins die down and the final finish on the palate is dry rum wood. I am afraid that the tartness is a thing that will be prevelant and take over the palate if you age this beer.
