Growler... Pours new moon black with a small, fat-bubbled, khaki head. Decent retention. The bouquet is an interesting assortment of herbs that synergistically come together to fashion a sassafras tea-like scent. Full-bodied with a thick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. The chocolaty, herbal flavor supplies a boatload of singed cacao nibs and bittersweet herbal tea. Deeply roasted, bittersweet herbal tea finish. Big-time thanks to darkguardian for sharing this rare, hard-to-find treat. SSKD814 (854) - Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 3, 2011
A-Body is a very dark brown, nearly black hue. Served with a one finger or so tan head that fades to aq thin collar that remains thin but lingers on for awhile. Hints of vibrant red can be seen when this brew is held up to the light.
S- The tea and mint can be detected and accent the profile of DA-which is pretty mild with plum raisin, anise, chocolate, and a hint of roasted malt coming through deep in the background.
T- Initial flavor is quite smnooth and balanced with an equal balance of roasted malt, vanilla, anise, licorice. The initial flavor is pretty much the same as regular DA but a lot milder and a hint of tea can be detected deep in the bakcground The flavors remain mild for the finish but just a hint of refreshing mint comes through on the back on the palate and lingers briefly.
M- Low to medium carbonation a medium weight body. The body is very smooth but noticably thinner than regular DA.
D- This is an interesting, refreshing spin on DA- and the slightly lighter weight body and addition of the refreshing mint make it slightly easier to consume.

On tap at the Jackie O’s 5th Anniversary Extravaganza. Pours a brown/black color with a medium tan head. Nose is licorice, chocolate and spice. Licorice hits you first, then some spice before the chocolate takes over. Finish is spicy and roasty. deyholla (11597) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - DEC 4, 2010
Sampled from the tap at the brewery during the 5th anniversary party. Poured black with opaque edges and a grayish-brown head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a strong mint note with some licorice with a dark grain, chocolate and coffee backing. Flavor started with dark grain and dark chocolate but was overwhelmed with a strong mint note. There was a bit of licorice and alcohol in the finish. JStax (6478) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - DEC 4, 2010
On tap into a snifter. Appearance is dark black with a tan head and minimal lacing. Aroma is of coffee, chocolate, nuts, and some mint. Taste is much like the aroma with the coffee and chocolate in the forefront with a light minty taste coming through in the finish. I don’t really get any of the basil, but the licorice and sweet fennel I can taste lightly in the middle of each drink. Heavy beer. Much more than a sample of this and you would have no need to eat anything during your visit to this brewery.
