COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Dark brown, nice, but not stable head. Aroma: ed fruits, raisins, caramel, molasse, chcolate. Medium to light body, light sweetness, low bitterness. Empty, almost watery, soke caramelish notes, bit of chocolate, bit ashy finish with no alcohol. Red fruits, bit sour.

Very nice aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, brown sugar, molasses. Some hazelnut as well. Taste is sweet and sugary, roasted and medium bitter. Creamy and potent. Burnt sugar, alcohol spiciness, hazelnut waffles, chocolate. Very nice, standard imperial stout.

375ml bottle @ home. Black color. Beige/light brown head with little retention. Aroma's: sweet, molasses, light roast, light fruit. Retronasal it's black strap molasses, a bit umami, drop, sweet, roasted. Flavor is above moderate sweet, roasted, light umami. Fairly strong alcohol feel, warming. Full bodied. Long finish, firm roast, light moderate bitter. Good stuff!

Aromat kawowy, ale w stronę kwaśną. Do tego paloność, lekko grzejący alkohol. Na finiszu wytrawne i wyraźnie gorzkie.

Jackie O's standard 'impy' and the starting point of a string of variations. At the Halloween tasting session in the Struise shop in Bruges, thanks Filip for sharing this one. Very thick, creamy, dense, pale yellowish beige head, deep black robe with mahogany edges. Aroma of a lot of beef stock (cubes), fried black olives, black 'fondant' chocolate, hazelnuts, glue, dried plums, elderberry syrup, parsley, black peppercorns, coffee grounds, cigar ashes, hint of chicken soup. Sweetish onset but relatively restrainedly so, dried elderberries, fig, smoked Polish plums, lots of beef stock-like umami (as announced by the nose) and a sourish blackberry touch underneath; soft carbonation, sufficiently thick and oily mouthfeel. Very nutty and toffeeish malt body, toasted bitter and eventually black coffee-like roasted, mouth-filling with a thin metallic edge to it; hints of thyme, parsley and remaining beef stock umami in the end, nut shells and butterscotch from the malts, peppery hops, heating whisky-like alcohol. Decent enough but a bit too much umami for me personally - clearly one of those beers that significantly improve with the old barrel aging treatment.

Classic imperial stout. Description provided by the brewery is quite accurate. Not exceptional but really properly aligned with the style.

Chocolate negro, especias, café, rustidos. Cuerpo denso y final de amargor quemado largo hasta el regusto.

375 ml bottle.

Pours dark brown, practically black color with a small beige head. Quite intense oaty aroma, lots of roasted malts, dark chocolate, hints of vanilla, subtle hop notes and cocoa. Flavor is also super roasty and bitter malty, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, subtle dark fruit notes on the background, very light honey notes peak through, faint coffee bitterness, lingering bitter dry malt finish. Maybe a bit too oaty overall for my taste but I'd have this for breakfast any day.
