Multiple samples from brewpub and at DLD ’11. Pours dark brown to black in color with thin beige film. The aroma and flavor have dark roasted malts, dark fruit, black coffee, some anise, a touch of soy. The flavors were bigger than the nose. some alcohol showed, but this was to be expected.

bottle from dak 1/22/12. imperial stouty black color...no real head. aroma and flavors of toasted nuts, coffee, anaheim peppers, roast and brown sugar with a battery-like acidic aftertaste thick and a bit syrupy. neat. 7/3.5/7/3/14

Left over growler acquired by Peter and shared by John for rating number 1000. I seriously thought about going with Lime-a-rita, but chose this instead. Pour is predicatably black with a thin rim of tan foam. Appears to still have some nice carbonation. Does not look all that viscous but does leave some nice long legs. Aroma is complex. Molasses, Soy sauce, roasted malt, dark fruity notes, hints of cocoa, and a touch of cobweb from the basement ceiling. Much more roasty notes as it warms. Deep dark and complex. Flavor is similar to nose with more roasted ashy notes than the aroma but also loads of sweet sugary notes, hints of coconut, and a touch of booze. Drinks very very well for "12%". right. Also has a long brown sugar and toffee finish that keeps you wnting more. Really nice stuff.

Growler I’ve been cellaring since late last year. Shared alongside 6 other DA variants. Pours a deep cocoa brown color with a tiny tan ring for a head. Mellow aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar, and roasted malts. The flavor is where it hits you, with chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, dark fruits, toast, caramel, and a booziness throughout. Not killer, though. Probably best I let this one sit a while. Surprised any carbonation was left. Full-bodied, with a rich, heavy mouthfeel. I liked this one a lot, just as much as Bourbon or Brandy.

Tasted this one at Dark Lord Day 2012. Served in a taster glass. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin off-white head and not much in the way of lacing, though there’s a bit of a collar. The nose brings a touch of booze along with nice notes of coffee, roast, and dark chocolate. Flavor is full of chocolate and a bit of warming alcohol. Body is medium-full with low-ish carbonation. Another nice beer from Brad. Very enjoyable.

(sampled at Dak’s tasting). Pours dark brown with a thin espresso head. Aroma has roast, coffee and honey? Taste is sweet with more roast. Medium bodied and slick. Decent beer, but very happy to try this.

Another beauty courtesy of Dak. Pours mahogany in color with mocha like head leaving nearly clumpy legginess clinging to the glass. The aroma offers up notes such as dark roasted maltiness, dark sweet cherry like fruity esters, semi spicy black strap molasses and a bit of toffee. The taste is nearly smooth with dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee, molasses and then sweet notes of dark dried cherries. This is nice and bold in flavor with a bit of brightness here and there too.

Bottle shared by daknole @ Woodshed 1.0! Excited to try this one and it didn’t disappoint! Deep dark mahogany crossing slowly into black with a razor thin cocoa powder head. Lots of vanilla, baker’s chocolate, fudge, molasses, and roasted coffee bean. Sweet and concentrated but not cloying. Really good stuff.

From alexsdad06. Nearly black, small brown head. Aroma has some coffee, chocolate, ash, molasses, licorice. Flavor is roasty, ashy, chocolate, some bitterness on the finish. Nice.

Dark Apparition Ice. On tap at Jackie O’s.. Appearance same as the rest but a deeper soy sauce like nature... Aroma are somewhat subdued with some boozy phenols and a thick chocolate feel alongside some darker fruit... Flavors are big and thick with concentrated chocolate fudge notes with a little heat and light roast on the backend. Thick mouthfeel with a boozy backend for sure. Intense 7/4/8/4/15
