Draft at brewpub. Pours black. Nose and taste of roasted chocolate malts, roasted coffee, vanilla, barrel and bourbon. Lots of warming alcohol but holds its balance quite well for the high ABV. Dogbrick (13764) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - FEB 19, 2011
Sample at the Jackie O’s Bottle Sale/ Stout and Big Beer Fest on 02/05/2011. Blackish-brown pour with a minimal light beige head that disappears quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate, and hops. Rich and chewy body with flavors of black coffee, chocolate and malt, along with a slight alcohol burn. The finish is roasty with a rich coffee aftertaste. Good beer throughout. daknole (11402) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 22, 2012
From alexsdad06. Nearly black, small brown head. Aroma has some coffee, chocolate, ash, molasses, licorice. Flavor is roasty, ashy, chocolate, some bitterness on the finish. Nice. alexsdad06 (10805) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - SEP 1, 2013
Multiple samples from brewpub and at DLD ’11. Pours dark brown to black in color with thin beige film. The aroma and flavor have dark roasted malts, dark fruit, black coffee, some anise, a touch of soy. The flavors were bigger than the nose. some alcohol showed, but this was to be expected. phaleslu (10668) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 15, 2012
Growler I’ve been cellaring since late last year. Shared alongside 6 other DA variants. Pours a deep cocoa brown color with a tiny tan ring for a head. Mellow aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar, and roasted malts. The flavor is where it hits you, with chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, dark fruits, toast, caramel, and a booziness throughout. Not killer, though. Probably best I let this one sit a while. Surprised any carbonation was left. Full-bodied, with a rich, heavy mouthfeel. I liked this one a lot, just as much as Bourbon or Brandy.

Another beauty courtesy of Dak. Pours mahogany in color with mocha like head leaving nearly clumpy legginess clinging to the glass. The aroma offers up notes such as dark roasted maltiness, dark sweet cherry like fruity esters, semi spicy black strap molasses and a bit of toffee. The taste is nearly smooth with dark roasted malts, dark roasted coffee, molasses and then sweet notes of dark dried cherries. This is nice and bold in flavor with a bit of brightness here and there too. JaBier (8253) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAR 1, 2011
Sample at Jackie O’s on 2/5/11. Brownish black pour with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with some booze and chocolate notes. Chocolate malt flavor with some noticeable alcohol before a creamy and roasty finish. Beerman6686 (6611) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 1, 2011
This poured a very dark brown to black color with a tiny tiny daark tan head. Aroma was lots of dark fruits, molasses and some soy. Flavor was much the same, not very roasty, very sweet with light roast, very thick but hold back the booze very well. Good stuff. Thorpe429 (5122) - , Illinois, USA - MAY 8, 2012
Tasted this one at Dark Lord Day 2012. Served in a taster glass.
Pours a very dark brown color with a thin off-white head and not much in the way of lacing, though there’s a bit of a collar. The nose brings a touch of booze along with nice notes of coffee, roast, and dark chocolate. Flavor is full of chocolate and a bit of warming alcohol. Body is medium-full with low-ish carbonation. Another nice beer from Brad. Very enjoyable. drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 13, 2011
