This unique beer is a plum infused Wee Heavy that experienced a secondary fermentation from native Athens’ micoflora off of the skins of the local plums. This all happened with in an American Oak barrel over the course of three months. A 10.5% one of a kind brew that embodies tart/sweet plumbs, peat-smoked Scottish ale, and second-generation bourbon barrel flavors (soft bourbon notes and some very refined oak character). It was exciting to see this beer actually make it on tap. I thought it was a crazy idea. Once that barrel was opened up, a delightful surprise sprang forth.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06, vintage 2010. At least we tried, this was the biggest gusher that I’ve seen in a while. Nose Interesting sour fruit, light powder, some grape and plum. Taste soured white wine. Almost medicinal. I’m sure this was much better fresher. Smells much better than it tastes.

Bottled in 2010 #2/192
Tasted on 4/28/12 with the Nashville and Knoxville crews at Curtis’ old house, big thanks to JR for bringing this one. Pours chunky cola brown with an average tan head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is fruity, brown sugar, caramel, molasses, and a touch of earthy funk. The flavor is a bit fruitier with the plum coming through, an added cinnamon bourbon and barrel note, with all of the same dark malt from the nose. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long fruity plum and cinnamon bourbon finish.

22oz bottle. ’10, 158 / 192. Poured a brown color with a thin sized head. Dark fruits, plums, woody and earthy. On the sweet side with a nice lighter tart finish.

Damico (3146) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 6, 2013
Pours somewhat murky unclear brown with a beige head, a super slow gusher. Delightful aroma brings wild sweet and tart yeast, undertones of plums almost like grape soda. Flavor starts with soft tart wild yeast and some fruity notes with no bit pucker or bite. The peaty notes are gone from the nose but work well on the palate with a bit of pleasant booze spice. It is very well balanced, as usual for Beace.

Opaque dark brown - black beer, good tan head. Light nose of bourbon and fruit. Airy smooth palate, pretty dry. Creamy malt with slightly bitter and sour bourbon. Dry wood and plummy fruits. Finishes dry. This so nearly works at being something unique but it’s too bitter and dry.

Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 20, 2012
In short: A cloying mix of fruit juice concentrate and some bourbon. Sickening
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed 6 months after receiving the bottle in a trade from grownfool (not idea if it was fresh), thanks Brian
The look: Cloudy burgundy body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is intense dark fruits (plums and more) along with boozy barrels that somehow was more reminiscent of red-wine barrels than the bourbon barrels being used, also alcohol fumes. Taste is disgustingly sweet with a sweetness that really felts like concentrate fruits juice (before adding the 3 portions of water), alcohol is very present, plenty of vanilla, bourbon showing up in the taste, light fruity sourness. This was brutally aggressive and cloyingly unpalatable. Borderline gross, I didn’t finish my bottle. This beer was so bad, may as well just laugh about it, and if laughter is indeed the best medicine, then how will the Republicans find a way to prevent poor people from having fun?

22-MAR-2012, bottle @Papsø. Brown with low off-white head. Bourbon and hops on the nose. What type is this...? Fruity, cherries..., dried fruits - ah! - plums. Slightly roasted. Almost a black IPA. Quite like it, but strange beast.
