Approximately 4 ounce sample at the Jackie O’s Public House in Athens, Ohio. The pour is hazed copper brown with a whispy tan head. The aroma is soft smoke and char, along with sweetly soft malt. Gentle, approachable nose. The taste is the soft smokey roast up front, turning quick to sweet nut malt and finishing with more of the soft smoke. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and the dry roast finish. Nice smoke beer, not overdone.
Draft at Jackie O’s. Pours a hazy, muddy brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is very light, but contains some smoky malts, more campfire than meaty. The flavor opens with a meaty smoked quality and moderately sweet malts before becoming more campfire smoke, earthy with a hint of peat toward the finish. Received in a 4 oz. tasting glass. This is a smoked brown ale.
3.5 A: Light brown color. Came without a head.
4.5 S: Campfire and especially porcine smokiness. Big and bold like I like my smoke. Toasty and a little nutty.
3.5 T: Taste is more campfirery. Toasty and mildly nutty. Not a ton of flavor, but good enough.
2.5 M: Light body. A lot thinner than I’d like. Good moderate carbonation. Smooth, but needs some body desperately.
3.5 D: Tasty beer that needs a new mouthfeel.

Draft sample. Poured clear dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate complex toasted malt and smoke aroma. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dough, smoke sweet flavor with a solid sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer.

Poured on draft. Pours a dark brown with a tan head of foam and nice lacing. The aroma is primarily bacon with some chocolate peaking through every once in a while. Taste is smoke again. On tap at Jackie O’s. Served in a sampler glass. Pours a medium brown color with a nice head. Nose carries a bit of smoke along with toasted malt. Nice bready flavors in the background and just a bit of roast. Flavor similarly relies mostly on malt flavors with the addition of a bit of smoke. Fairly smooth and easy-drinking. UPDATED: AUG 4, 2012 Growler from the brew pub. Pours a deep brown with tan head and good lacing. Very malty roasty nutty earty aroma. Flavor is rich and malty and there is a good smoke with a little hop balance and there is some alcohol. Overall I like this beer it would be perfect around the campfire like its name suggests.
