Sample at the brewpub. Clear amber pour with a thick tan head. Nose of orange zest, herbs and malt. Orangy and piney hop flavor with some pale malt before a bitter and citrusy grapefruit finish. I really enjoyed this one. The concentration brought on by freezing really turned this into a unique and delicious brew. Tmoney99 (15226) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 3, 2012
Draft. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy citrus hop aroma. Moderate to heavy bitter flavor with a moderate to heavy bitter finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate alcohol bite at the finish. Very good complex brew. DrSilverworm (10000) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 27, 2012
I was lucky to find this on tap, what an exciting beer. I’ve heard that the ABV is around 16%, but that can’t be right... There’s not nearly enough alcohol taste. It has a little more noticeable alcohol warmth than the standard Matriarch, but honestly, no bite. Thicker, but not at all syrupy -- manages to still have a nice amount of dryness. If I had to guess... I’d say it was 11-12% ABV. Slightly hazy golden-orange color. Minimal white head, with that silver dollar sized white circle floating on the surface. Respectable lace. I tried the standard Matriarch the day before and was blown away by it... The Mumsy still has that massive hoppiness with the same great aromas, with a bit more warmth, and maybe a little more maltiness, but that’s just fine. Very big body. Thick, but not viscous. Lighter bitter and sweet taste, some spice. Really impressive. Very happy to have gotten a chance to try this. JStax (7396) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Poured on draft. Appearance is a hazy yellow with a white head of foam. Aroma is super sweet and floral. "Holy Shit!" is barely able to describe this beer. Taste is super balanced for such an ass whoopin beer. Sweet, bitter, earthy. Oh man, this is definitely a beer to savor. I’m sure the alcohol content is fairly low, but I didn’t see it posted anywhere on site or on Jackie-O’s website. I’m sure it’s an outrageous number. Loved it!
