COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is that big sticky hop elixir that I have always wanted to brew. Columbus and Warrior hops lend an assertive bitterness. Amarillo, Simcoe, and Centennial hops give this beer tons of great flavors of grapefruit, tangerines, and pine needles. A big dry hop addition of Amarillo and Simcoe give Mystic Mama a nose to stand up to the flavor. Soon to be a year round addition.

A west coast styled IPA that uses 5 different hops (Centennial, Amarillo, Warrior, Simcoe, Columbus) giving it tons of flavor, aroma, and an assertive bitterness. 7% abv with the ability to get you hop trigger firing!

Can dated 3/29 from 6er a few weeks ago (followed by the other 5, and soon another 6er). They mentioned in a blog entry that they’ve updated the recipe, and based on my previous (unrated) experience it shows. Clear pale pour, nice head, good retention and lacing. Aroma is big, fresh, and driven by citrusy hop profile. Taste is reasonably dry, moderately bitter. Medium body, average carbonation, oily texture. So quaffable. I’ve had a hard time savoring this one because my glass empties too fast. Were I sticking around longer, this would be a mainstay in my fridge.

Can at home, thanks Jeff! Pours clear copper, white head. Aroma is light citrus, toast, floral pine on the back end. Taste is bitter grapefruit, pine, toasted caramel. More balanced maltiness. Highly bitter, high carbonation. Almost too bitter for me.

Tap at TipTop in Columbus: clear gold with a solid hop profile in aroma and flavor. More juniper than floral. Great IPA

Canned. Pours a clear golden beer with a small white head on top. Aroma is very fruity, citrussy, grassy. Flavour is mildly bitter, bittersweet, malty, fudgy. Has a nice sweet malty backbone, but long and dry mouthfeel. Carbonation is fairly high, good in balance and full bodied. Good stuff.

12 ounce can from Winerak Market in Zanesville, Ohio, served a few minutes out of the fridge in a pint glass. Very clear gold, huge head that is initially so smooth I’d swear it was nitro if I didn’t know better; eventually this starts to break apart and settle down leaving rocky, fluffy chunks all the way...sharp resinous and citric nose, fairly typical though there’s a bit of vanilla for interest, and the fruitiness is of the over-ripe kind, along with some definite notes of peel...more dry on the tongue than I would have expected (or liked, to be honest), but there’s some sour-tart grapefruit juiciness in there throughout, and the bitterness is strong throughout, leading to a very sharp and hard finish that doesn’t want to truly finish...full and acidic mouthfeel, fairly strong carbonation. On the whole I’m enjoying it but am ambivalent about the overall character; not that fond of Amarillo or Simcoe and what it all boils down to me is too dry and bitter without enough corresponding fruitiness or sweetness. It’s well brewed and has held up in the can for 2 months, but it’s not likely one I’d buy again.

Can. Grapefruit hop aroma with notes of tangerine and pine resiny hop. Pours clear golden colored with a large off white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with grapefruit and tangerine hop flavor and acidity. Finishes dry and quite bitter with sticky pine resin flavors clinging to the palate through the end of the sip. Pretty good IPA, a little bitter at the end though.

Can. Pours golden with thick white head. Aroma is lemon grapefruit with piney notes. Taste is sweet piney citrus with a piney sweet bitter hop finish. Good stuff.

Very slightly hazy bright gold with its own inner light, and a thin sticky white cap. Big leafy and earthy dank nose with a light bit of pine resin and bright pale malt. Big flavor that’s dark pale malt and big leafy/pithy/resiny hop bitterness. Reminiscent of Deviant Dales with its resiny big leafy bitterness and slightly boozy pale malt body. Big stern bitter IPA

Boardman, Oh - Vintage Estate Wine and Beer - 12 oz can. Slightly hazy light golden with a solidly thick snow white head, Aroma has some topical fruitiness, a touch of spruce. Nice bitter flavor, some grapefruit citrus, a touch of pineapple, a touch of spearmint. Decently thick mouthfeel but turns a bit metallic in the finish.
