Had this at the August 27th bottle release. 4 oz pour from a tasting snifter. Since all of the variants of Oil were quite similar to the regular, I’m using my review of the regular as a base and supplementing when necessary.
4.5 A: Black. Came with no head on this one.
5.0 S: Rich, sweet malty base. Plenty of bittersweet chocolate and caramel. Moderate roastiness, toasty, with touches of coffee and molasses. The nuttiness from the walnuts makes this a special, truly unique beer. The candi sugar adds a final layer of complexity. Light cherry and a good bit more chocolate take this to the height of enjoyment.
4.5 T: Full flavored chocolate, caramel, molasses, and a general neutral maltiness. A touch of coffee with a moderate roast. Again, the walnuts add a toasty nuttiness that I cannot get enough of. The mint does nothing but distract and adds nothing of value. Fortunately, it doesn’t do too much damage. Coffee addition makes this beer a great coffee beer, but surprisingly it isn’t much better than the original. There some cherry and a bit more chocolate, but otherwise this is the same in quality.
4.5 M: Medium to heavier medium body. Good creaminess and super smooth. A tad creamier than the regular.
4.5 D: Love the Oil. Love it on-tap. Love the variants and this is a very good one.

A - Pours black, tan-colored head, lacing
S - Chocolate, cherries, burnt sugars. The chocolate and cherries are excellent.
T - chocolate, oak, nutty notes, roast. Not as nice as the nose.
M - Medium to full, light carbonation, creamy finish.
O - I was so damn glad to get this beer. Great beer.

Poured pitch black, with the same aroma as the regular oil of aphrodite with a suubtle cherry aroma. Taste was out of this world, it reminded me of the choclate covered cherries you buy near christmas time. You also get a slight nnutty flavor as well. As the beer warms you get a more prominent walnut flavor with some hints of coffee. Thiis maybe a 10%more beer, but sure as heck didn’t drink like one, really good, smooth, and easy to drink. daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JAN 15, 2012
Thanks to brad! Nearly black, brown head. Aroma is loaded with rich chocolate, cherries, fudge and light tartness. Flavor is a tart chocolate covered cherry!! alexsdad06 (10672) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - SEP 11, 2011
Draft sample @ 8/27 bottle release. Pours dark brown/black with a medium sized tan head that disappears quickly. The aroma is very similar to the original with the addition of some dark cherry fruitiness and enhanced chocolate character. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, dark cherry with the nice black walnuts found in the original. I liked this, but have it just a notch below the vanilla.

Draft sample. Poured a black color with a large frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted dark chocolate, cherry and alcohol aroma. Heavy bittersweet roasted dark chocolate cherry flavor with a heavy bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

I was lucky to have urbancaver share some of his sample with me, the last pour of this beer for the weekend as the keg kicked. Pours a deep, opaque brown with a small beige head. Malts hit first- chocolate, roast, toast- then a mellow sweet cherry character emerges, along with molasses and walnuts. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, malty, roasty mouthfeel. Just the right amount of cherry and not too tart. Really nice and balanced. Tasty. BuckeyeBoy (8301) - Boise, Idaho, USA - SEP 10, 2017
Bottle things to Toby pours out black topped with a brown head. Nose is Big Rich chocolate cherries some fudge a little bit of nutty notes and coffee. Tastes is more of the chocolate cherries candy like some vanilla wood. Very good JStax (7132) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - DEC 5, 2011
Poured on draft into a sampler glass. Appearance is black with a thin, tan/purple head if foam. Aromas of chocolate and cherry come to the forefront with notes of coffee and vanilla making their presence known further in. Taste is mostly chocolate, but there is a slight cherry presence in there behind the coffee. This is a nice, subtle rendition of the Oil of Aphrodite. On tap at Jackie-Os, served in a snifter. Pitch-black color, a little bit of medium-brown head. Awesome chocolate syrup nose-smell. Lovely dark bitter chocolate aroma, the cherry accent works very well with it. Not over-powering. Good sweet and bitter taste that lasts well through the aftertaste. Light, crisp smooth carbonation. Nice drier texture. Some tart sweetness.
