4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sample thanks to Urbancaver.
Nice. Nose of coffee, almost nothing else. Palate offers subtle nutty meatiness, rich black coffee (without excess bitterness), solid brew.
Draft at Jackie O’s (12/2011). Pours dark brown /black with a small beige head. The aroma is coffee forward with roasted malts, nuts, dark chocolate and some honey sweetness. The flavor has everything from the nose; a great blending of the strong coffee, roasted malts, dark chocolate, nuts and honey. I think its the mouth feel and body of the Oil of Aphrodite that helps it pull off the various treatments so well. mstriviaboy (1) - v, Ohio, USA - SEP 10, 2012 does not count
Midnight black color with a light caramel-colored Belgian lacing. Dark chocolate, espresso, and macerated cherries in the nose. Rich kopi coffee, milk and dark Belgian chocolates, slight black licorice, and fairly subtle alcohol warmess..definitely not hot, however. A superior beer in all regards from a superior brewery in all regards. The apex of the Dark Apparition treatments. DrSilverworm (10000) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 7, 2012
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2012 On tap at Jackie-Os, served in a snifter. Black color, awesome thick and creamy brown head leaving froths of lace. Amazing, super strong and spot-on coffee aroma, crests up and then back down through the aftertaste. Nice bitter taste... A lot like a good strong concentrated Turkish coffee. Light, smooth roasty texture, amazing aftertaste. This is a mind-blowing beer. I think this is on the same level as Founders Breakfast Stout (which I love very much) Edit: In retrospect, this is way beyond FBS Dogbrick (14331) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 28, 2011
Sample at the brewpub. The beer is an oily black color with a medium beige head that dissipates to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Roasty coffee in the nose with notes of malt and chocolate. Rich and smooth body with flavors of bold coffee, roasted nuts, malt and chocolate. The finish is black coffee with a lingering dark malty aftertaste. Very good beer all around. Tooch4321 (29) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 24, 2011
Poured from a 64oz growler, thanks to Kan for blessing me with this gem. Poured jet black with medium carbonation and tannish head, nose is major coffee, some chocolate and roast. The flavor was just amazing, big, bold, punch you in the mouth coffee, I could wake-up to a cup of this every morning. Finish was smooth and rich, I’ve loved every variation of the base beer and this one was set the bar even higher. Best coffee beer that I’ve had yet!

64oz growler thanks to bc. requested and received. thanks my friend aand much appreciated by those around me.... pours a deeper sense of mostly opaque black stoutiness with brownish edges and medium beige head that eventually retreats, leaving a medium film around the edges... aroma was potently coffee-centric upfront but kindly gives way to more of a complex profile with roasty nuttiness and even moreso dark fruit and a honey dependency. evolves to more of a strong coffee bean offering to more of the latter mentioning characteristics... flavors are more of the same although maintaining a moderately sweet coffee focused, light roast, and honey based malt profile which combined well with a fluffy yet somewhat full bodied experience. a soft level of carbonation combined well with the aforementioned. totally a different beer as it warmed to room temperature and enjoyed through each spectrum. some warming is also noticed after warming. would def have again if given the opportunity. Sample at Jackie O’s 6th Anniversary Extravaganza on 12/3/11. Pitch black pour with a medium light brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and walnuts. Chocolatey flavor with nuts and coffee before a roasty, almost ashy finish. Very delicious. chibuck (3521) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 5, 2011
draft... quite excellent but the coffee dominated and I didn’t get any of the roast nut I like in the oil Beerman6686 (6611) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 5, 2011
This poured a straight black color with a small tan head. Aroma was almost just straight deep dark roasted coffee with light chocolate notes floating in between and some herbal and cherry notes too. Flavor was much like the aroma, deep Kopi taste, very invitined and not overly sweet. Alcohol is well hidden as well.
