A fine imperial stout was a great deal while sitting at the recently opened tap room. Heavy and thick this requires some patience to fully appreciate. If you just want the tick have a few friends. Otherwise it would make a great winter warmer.
Aroma / Appearance - The mocha head and icy legs accompany a heavy black body. Heavy on the rum the nose is thick with dark chocolate, malt, and sweetness. Things mostly work though the ABV is evident right away.
Flavor / Palate - Malts and rum sweeten the palate. A small amount of cloying texture is distracting. Soon though it is masked by the barrel aging. Licorice and coffee help recover from a profile which is well done for the most part. I’d love to try a few other varieties to see how they compare.
Black with an etched surface. Smells fucking awesome, didn’t expect the walnuts to come into me so well. A touch of diacetyl, some oak, rum, sweetened figs, some cocoa, a good caramel dose. Flavor deviates a bit from the nose - plastic, some raisin, some cardboard, a little leather, a little bit of an astringency bordering on tartness that indicates a possible mishap in the bottle. Not willing to say infection, but certainly not what I would suspect they intended. Medium on full bodied with low carb and a dry finish. The nose on this beer is insanely awesome, too bad the taste didn’t deliver much. LoFi (1748) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - DEC 29, 2013

22 oz. bottle shared by jmikolich, thanks for the opportunity! Pitch black, with large, foamy tan head with some decent lace. Aroma of rich roasted malt, chocolate, light coffee and a nuance of Caption Morgans. Flavor has loads of chocolate cake, raisins, roasted malt, molasses. The rum flavor is integrated well and is very subtle. The mouthfeel is slick with real oily texture. Goes well with the name of the brew. The ABV is completely hidden. Overall this is a damn fine stout. When I used to drink spirits, rum was my main choice. So this was a real treat to try, Thanks Jim! AdamChandler (5150) - Enfield, New Hampshire, USA - DEC 2, 2013

Bottle courtesy of rlgk. Pours oily pitch black with a rather small creamy dark chocolate brown head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and boozy with roasted malts, high quality dark chocolate, rum soaked raisins, roasted nuts, dark roast coffee, prunes, alcohol, toffee, burnt caramel, liqueur filled chocolate pralines, vanilla milk shake, prunes and dates. Taste is sweet, bitter, tiny sour and malty with heavily roasted malts, charred wood, rum soaked raisins, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla fudge, toffee, butterscotch hard candy, alcohol, heavily roasted nuts, caramelized almonds, moist soil, rum and coca cola, brown sugar and hints of cuban cigars. Mouthfeel is round, soft, burning boozy, tiny roasted astringent and medium to full bodied. finish is bitter and boozy with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, rum soaked raisins, roasted nuts, toffee, vanilla fudge, alcohol and peppery wood. Hot burning rum supplements the heavy roast quite well. Very tasty... rlgk (18852) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 16, 2013
