Oro Negro spawned from our unwavering compulsion to experiment. Infusing imperial stouts with spices, fruits, and woods has been a staple at our bottle releases since 2009. Oro Negro is the culmination of note-taking and listening to our patrons. Our cherished Oil of Aphrodite was aged in bourbon barrels and infused with cacao nibs, vanilla beans, habaneros, and cinnamon sticks. A refined stout filled with rich character and a touch of heat.

8/14/2016 -- from notes: 12.7oz bottle. Wow. Awesome complex flavor. Brown sugar, cinnamon, big vanilla, mild coffee, a bit of a bigger pepper kick. Very interesting herbal spice character that seems to amplify through the sip, cresting only well into the aftertaste. Little bit of a pepper heat / bite on the back end. Moderate sweet taste, light to moderate bitter, some alcohol. Black color, with a thin khaki head leaving bits of lace. Bigger body, certainly creamy. Kind of slick and oily. Light carbonation. Big chewiness. Awesome stuff. Even better than expected. Certainly seems more aromatic than I remember the base being, so JaBier's comment of J-O's adding more to the barrel makes sense.

A black beer, a head is quite big and beige. Aroma has salt liquorice, sweetness of malts and dried fruits, some spicyness of chili and cinnamon. Taste has salt liquorice, roastiness, dried fruits, chili in the warming and long end. Some dry barrel. Full bodied. Quite strong chili that isn't spoil this but less would be better.

Good brew...close to very good, though the 100/98 seems a stretch. Barrel and vanilla are dominant, cocoa in a support role, and the spices, especially the peppers, are barely there. That said, it's a decadent and smooth beer, going down easier than a 12% beer should. Sweet vanilla and meaty barrel character.

375 ml bottle from Beergium, 2016 vintage.
Dark brown to black body, with a small, creamy, slightly lacing, dark beige head.
Lovely, dense aroma of bourbon, barrel, coconut, melting dark chocolate, cinnamon, cardamom, chili.
Tastes similar, but with more hot chilis.
Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes medium hot, medium sweet, a bit roasty, spicy, with chili, cinnamon, chocolate, slight coffee.

Very tasty. The nose is amazing, with a dense, creamy mix of the bourbon barrel, dark malts and sweet spices. The taste, while also very nice, is more dominated by the chilis, I would prefer it a bit more balanced. Overall a lovely sipper, with the only little flaw of the too strong chilis for me, which is the only reason why I don't give this an even higher rating.
