Pours a dark reddish brown with a very small wispy head.
The aroma is certainly rummy, it’s got some nice chocolate & oak... a little bit of fresh cut wood.
The flavor is nicely spicy with some good toasty malt notes. The level of toffee & sweetness is nice but not excessive. The vanilla comes through very well as well.
22 oz bottle shared by phaleslu. Thanks, Peter! Pours a deep brownish dark pour, good hazy dark body and middle is dark, near opaque. Some brownish glow on the edges and bottom. A small frothy head is tannish, dies to a small ring and laces small. Aromas show gentle fruit, brown sugar, and spirit. A bit of vanilla, rum, gentle heat. Some toffee, toast, kiss of brown malt, earth meets caramel, a bit if cocoa. Firmer vanilla bean, toast, and gentle rum spirit gives a distinct feel. Initial is medium bodied, a touch more full with some decent girth. Toasty malts meet caramel, toffee. Some deadened Rum spirit, brown sugar and Tahitian vanilla. Middle is a bit more thin, some heat, and dark fruit. Gentle toasty carmelized element grows, some raisin, rum, vanilla, and oak. A bit hot, thinner. Backend is a bit toasty, carmelized. Brown malts and caramel show a bit more. Barrel still shows life but some heats starts to die out. Some toastiness, soap, earth. Some chestnut, brown malt presence. Finish is a bit toasty, dry, carmelized. Some growing oak in the finish, not as hot but the body definitely leaves a sticky carmelized presence. Nice beer. Good firm barrel still integrates well if a bit hot as we hit the middle. Nice. phaleslu (10456) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 29, 2013
22 oz. bottle, 2012 vintage, #107/216. Pours a hazy plum brown with a small beige ring for a head. Took shitty notes on this one. Rum barrel is more subdued than expected, but still offers plenty of warmth, sweetness, and dark fruit. Caramel, cola, toasted brown sugar, raisins, plums. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a rich, sweet mouthfeel that has some subtle warmth. Nice rum barrel treatment on this barley wine. 22oz bottle, shared. 2012 vintage, bottle 211/216. Hazy brown color. Thin creamy khaki head. Leaves lots of dots of lace. Really nice rum barrel, toasty caramel malt, brown sugar aroma in the nose. Nice creamy texture, bigger body, good burnt brown sugar. Some chocolate. Nice bitter sweet taste, light bite. Nice light boozy warmth in the finish, works well with the rum barrel aromas... Just a light bite. Very tasty barleywine to sip and savor.

Bomber to snifter (thanks DrSilverworm). Looks good; a dark, fairly opaque brown with beige lacing. Smells good too; sweet and boozy with a nice rum barrel presence and notes of vanilla. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. Good beer! burg326 (5567) - Florida, USA - MAR 15, 2013
Bottle shared by Matt, poured an amber brown color with aromas of caramel, vanilla, wet wood, and some rum. Flavors were light dark fruits with some sweet malt followed by some soft rum. A great beer I got to try thanks to Matt. tkrjukoff (4335) - SWEDEN - MAR 15, 2013

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured dark brown with a mild head. Rum was super evident here. Spicy and sweet with dark malt grains and sweetness. Caramel and vanilla with dark fruits, wood, and even cocoa. Complex and quite unique tasting.
